After the skill tree, I've been playing my heroes and specials to make extra C-bills. Finally enjoying the HBR-F(L) and Sparky. The filters in the mech bay make it obvious that I have no assault class heroes.
Which are the best assault class heroes? An old article on metamechs says the Stalker Misery is good. Is that still true?
I bought the MAD-IIC pack so can get the Scorch cheaply. Is it a good mech? Is the Spirit Bear better? Or not worth the extra money?
Alternatively, I could ignore the Assault Heroes and get the Black Widow or even a Locust Master bundle, which includes premium time. Really like my Arctic Cheetah, so been wanting a Pirates Bane for a while now...
The heroes I do have include ACH-P(S), RVN-3L(S), BJ-2(L), Sparky, CN9-A(NCIX), Top Dog, HBR-F(L), CTF-3L(L).

If you want to buy a hero just for extra cbills you should know, what your playstyle is.
It is not a good deal to buy a PB if you dislike harrasing. For backstabbing your ACH is a better choice.
Same for SCORCH and SB. Great brawler... but brawl is not the best way to earn cbills if you are not absolute brawl fan.
You need a hero that fits your playstyle to make this 30% bonus work. This bonus is worth nothing if you can't stand the playstyle of your new hero or perform bad in it.
So if you need a good hint, that is not simple personal preference, write down what you most popular and effective playstyle is.
My personal preference: get PB. NOW. Not because of money. It is simply great harrasser(not as good as E1 but with ECM).
For money? Laservomit HRB-F(L) is great... if you do not fall asleep with this playstyle... Or NCIS as SRM brawler... or ACH as backstabber... All matter of your playstyle.

From the mechs you indicated as owned, I assume you are more of an light and med pilot.
Do you have sufficient experience with assault class machines ?
I would not recommend buying mechs from a class you normaly do not play.
Also the pay of while piloting heavy and assault mechs is quite dependant on the raw dmg you are doing since the protection rewards of meds and lights are not ticking.
Also your slow speed makes scouting rewards quite unusual as well as other non dmg non kill rewards.
So...are you sure you want to invest in an assault mech for money farming?
If so...well there is the Battlemaster hero Hellslinger that is a quite formidable mech..infact it is my prefered ride, also the Cyclops hero Sleipnir is a good mech.
I wouldn't recommend the Kodiak hero...you won't get into hitting distance before you suffer crittical damage 2 out of 3 matches (the 3rd match when somebody makes the error to ignore you and goes for the marauder or atlas you do above 500 dmg and make 3 or more kills)
The scorch is quite a good mech but the IICs will be nerfed next patch (since the IIC is more of an med/longrange mech this isn't realy that bad but the scorch is a close range fighter that will suffer more from the incomming agility nerfs)

So far, the only assault I've had much success in is the BLR-2C, laser vomit. Since I don't play Assault's much, I'll wait on getting an assault hero mech. Athough part of me really wants to add one to my mech collection.
Thanks for the replies!

Did you end up getting an assault hero during the sale?
You've got some good lazervomit options. It's slow and now considered 'old school' but if you're lazerpuking, the Misery is great.

I do have the Maulers, MC-IIC standard pack, and Direwolves.
How are the Sleipnir, Scorch, Ultraviolet doing?

No, I didn't buy a hero with MC. I only had about 1400MC and would have to spend $15 on MC. Metamechs rates it highly, but the Misery has a reputation as a "has-been" mech, so I didn't go for it.
Part of it is I do still have the Kodiak-3, MAL-MX90 and 4 Marauder-IICs to skill up. Plus I did get the Night Star Collector's pack so will be getting a hopefully decent Special assault in October. I do have much to learn on assaults.
Instead I spent $7 on MC and got a Pakhet. It's been fun for the two battles I played in it.
