Honestly, it's nothing short of a miracle that anyone even plays this game with how unsupportive the community is of new players. You should be happy anyone even plays. But no, instead you tell them how much they suck and how much better you are. Go you. <slow clap>

My friend, the only reason this game has ANY players is due to the community.

PGI makes the game, patches it and walks away merely suggesting that players consult Sarna if they want a description of the mechs, weapons, factions, history, etc.

It is the community the creates every player guide ever. Every mech guide ever. Every god damn single piece of supporting literature be it located here, reddit, metamechs, raks, or wherever is created by the community,

This game's community is f***king amazing, especially considering what it has to work with, and some of the ******* who come in a piss on it because they lack a little humor and humility.

Regardless, it's rude. And no it really doesn't. Unless you're a bully. Because good is subjective, and just because you think his build sucks doesn't make it true. And just because someone shares their match performance doesn't make is "bragging". And even if it was bragging. Who cares? Be happy that someone else is enjoying themselves instead of tearing them down and adding nothing positive.

'checks the entire thread again'

Did anyone personally insult him? No.

Does posting a play by play of how he did an awesome job killing some people count as bragging? Definitely.

It's not "bullying". It's called joking. And as someone who runs lore builds, aka ultimate terrible material that should be made fun of, I know what's a bad build :P I'd be 100% fine with getting ribbed for bragging about lore builds publicly, and most long-time players know that brag threads are going to attract some scrutiny. Now, he's fine to go and have fun in it, never said anything otherwise.

The definition of bragging is "excessively proud and boastful talk about one's achievements or possessions" - When someone is simply stating the facts of what they accomplished, that is not bragging. Nothing about his post was excessive. The most important point here is that even if it was bragging, this is a computer game. And honestly... please tell me what is wrong with bragging, in your definition? Are you honestly prepared to defend that stance? "Hey everybody! He's bragging about a computer game over here!" WAH-WOO-WAH-WOO *THIS IS A BRAG POLICE* *COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP*

Yes, bragging in polite company is something that should be joked about when there's a comedic aspect to it, like, for instance, his build. If he was a new player, I'd obviously not joke about his bragging, but I'd definitely recommend him different builds. But he's not a new player.

Quick question before I forget: Have you asked the OP if he feels personally offended by our ribbing? If he has said yes, then I'll apologize, since I didn't know he was that proud of his build and accomplishments, and will gladly give him advice on better setups in a less joke-y manner.

If he doesn't come in and say he's offended by our jokes? You're the only person here who has resorted to insults. Chill out.

My original build of 2 AC/10s, AC/5, twin AC/2s, 4 ML proved to be completely worthless due to engine size. So I maxed the engine and went for the biggest stuff I could while being heat-reasonable.

Three weapon groups (SPL and HMG have same mechanics and compliment each other for literally "0" heat fired nonstop due to heatsink amount.) ER MLs to give some damage while the RACs unjam. And RACs because RACs.

STD300, Endo Steel, 5UAC/5s, 10tons ammo. Go forth and conquer my child.

I don't want to go back and forth with this all day. There are multiple definitions of bragging depending on where you look. Either way... I'm chill. I just get annoyed when the only thing I see are 6 responses from people making jokes about how bad the build is, which clearly is intended to insult the players skill or choices. All the front page was post after post making fun of it. He was clearly pleased with his results, felt good about it, and wanted to share it. In return, the only thing he really got was a page full of smart *** remarks making fun of his choices. Nothing about it was constructive. It was just oh that sucks. Maybe I overreacted a bit, and for that I am sorry. I just saw a bunch of people jumping on him piling on the jokes and felt bad.

... you're the perfect example of what made me post this.

And while I agree with the sentiment that everyone's trying out the new tech and being a bit too enthusiastic about it and should remember that OldTech is fine too, I also disagree with your stated conclusions about the new weapon systems I actually got to try so far.

ATMs wreck face if you know what you are doing (but are really susceptible to AMS). My Mad Dog got several 800+dmg rounds yesterday, quad MPL and dual ATM9. RAC5's, at least, are GOOD if, again, you know what you're doing. Rifleman with dual RAC5 and quad ERML wrecked face in both matches I ran with it today.

... I agree MRMs seem to be bad, I can't see why anyone would take Light Gauss EVER, nor do I see a realistic use case for Heavy Gauss that doesn't suck. (I note you didn't mention heavy gauss tho).

... But this is veering off this thread's point, I believe, so I'll leave it here.

I will never hesitate to back up the prowess of ATMs. They are really very good.

Edit. Huh. For some reason I thought this was directed at me (as if I was doing the thread to say someone sucked and that I was better which is not at all the intent of the thread), but after going through the thread I discovered this wasn't directed at me but some of those goading my build.

(which I expect; the build goes against meta in every sense of the word.
There's even a meme about me about my meta heresy as well as a minuscule cult following from people who have seen me take 'heresy' builds and just mop things with them.)

Still, the intent and meaning of the thread's in the spoiler (as is the original response as if this quote was directed at me, my appologies).

I think I'm the dead MK II lol. I'm still trying to figure out a good build for the 1. I've switched over to the 2 with 2 uac 10, 4 asrm 6, 2 mhls. 88 alpha with an option to double tap the uac's and make it 108 at about 63% heat. That things melts face.

Whatever you had before (whether partly due to the other mechs shooting at me or not) really hurt me. The annihilator has so much armor from quirks and the skill tree that it's just insane. Even with an 88 damage alpha, you'd be looking at a minimum of 3 alphas to kill my annihilator.

Of course, you could probably run circles around it. Maxed out mobility, maximum engine... Goes 52.9 kph, sluggish turning, still slow on the torso twist and easily swarmed by Lights. The Annihilator is the Inner Sphere counterpart to the Dire Wolf in MWO.

Rawr.

Happy to 3v1 Clanners again.

Good on you mate :D

In other news, I wrecked an Annihillator yesterday.. It was a LRM boat Ani, and I was a LRM boat Supernova.. killed him in 3-4 alphas on HPG, was still yellow afterwards...

To be honest it was an "It's over Anakin, I have the high ground!" situation Posted Image
