LOL looks like a very desperate move

edit:

I don't mean the tactic/purpose just how the mech looks like when it is flying trying really hard not to die

Because in many instances it is...

I can recount numerous times where I'm the last survivor, battling against a numerically superior force, I lose a leg and my last act of defiance is the JJ in an effort to gain a little separation so I might get maybe one or two shots off before being swarmed.

It's the last act of defiance.

I don't mean the tactic nor purpose but the way the mechs look like when they are trying to fly walking in the air and about to die

No, it's tactical. A lot of mechs can't shoot up so a close quarter JJ will take you out of field of fire for a good couple of seconds. On at least two occasions, I lived just long enough for my team mate to kill my opponent and another time, the opponent overheated himself allowing me to land the final blow.

Sure, 99% of times it's pointless and simply makes you more of a target for other people being so high up but if you are gonna die already, you might as well.

its not like theres anything else you can do if youre about to die

jumpjetting keeps you alive a few seconds longer and in some cases can save you like if a teammate kills the mech that was shooting you

Jumping can throw off the enemy's aim when they are going for your cherry-red Torso, hopefully to redirect their shot into your legs.

However, it is most satisfying to kill an enemy mid-air. It feels soooooooo good. As illustrated in the Pretty Baby pre-sale promotional video:

On some mechs the hitboxes get quite glitchy when they use jump jets.

It's worse when people just stand there and take it. I usually think that person is pretty upset.
I dunno, if I'm out of weapons, and am the last mech standing (and have no chance to win via game mode) I'll just walk up to the OpFor and wait to for. I'm not at all upset - getting upset because your listing a video game is terribly childish - I'm just wrapping things up so we can all get another match in faster

Those who put point into jump jets and use jjs a lot are good at jump jet judo. Just jumping up for no reason is dumb. burn the jets while moving and using the vertical aspect of the maps can be used pretty well unless you have only two ct lasers.

Tapping jumpjets throws off the mech hit box so it's actually a very powerful hidden mechanic.

also if your out of weapons launching into the air can often draw a lot of enemy fire, saving your team mates to a degree

Why aren't we getting promo vids like that anymore? That's the kind of thing that gets people to open their wallets.

I want a Pretty Baby now.

Ever gone light mech hunting with birdshot (LB-X's) and gotten airshots with them? It's just so fun. Especially when it's a dead-on hit with twin LB-20-X's.

Jump jetting to spread damage to your legs is a survival tactic, much like torso rolling. There have been a few times I've used jets to live long enough to get a couple more shots in, and even to win a brawl that I would have lost if I had been trying to facetank.

I'm guilty. I do it too. Usually I'm thinking of just trying to get the last shot in to that cherry red torso of the enemy to get a kill before going down.

A lot of mechs have terrible pitch values and most of the good mechs use torso mounts (shooting dirt isn't fun, extra tonnage, shield arms, etc-- benefit of no arm weapons outweigh the benifit of arm weapons significantly on most mechs) It's more of a delaying action for your teammates to (hopefully) act upon, since when you are that far above someone they usually cannot hit you, while you can hit them with a volley or two before you die.
