A question:

With the tech update now in effect is the tonnage restriction on clans in Faction Warfare still balanced and 'fair'?

IS now have equivalent tech to clans but still maintain the advantage of a significant tonnage advantage, to the tune of 265 vs 240 in FW...

What's your view on this?

Well Russ just replied on Twitter (to Spec) that they have discussed it and are currently monitoring it.

I would prefer if anyrhiing either bring Clans up to 250 and IS down to 250/255 or....

Both to 240ish...

Fighting endless waves of Battlemasters gets old quick.

Oh, right. I DO own some IS mechs. Posted Image

But really, what are the caps right now? 240 vs 2xx? It's been so long since I looked at the IS, I honestly don't remember. Is it really 265?!

Right and let's ignore the fact of most FW players who have consistent success in IS mechs bring the over quirked varriants....seriously seeing quirked and skilled mechs bringing ER meds with optimal range above 465m before fall off....yea....that's not equal is it?

I think with the release of the IS ultra ac/20 the clans should see a tonnage boost .

Quirks != tech

Quirks exist to bring underperforming mechs up to standard. They were used as a band-aid to address the horrible imbalance between the two tech bases. Same with drop deck tonnage.

PGI is now moving in the direction of balancing the two tech bases, and they've made some progress in that respect, but they're definitely not equal yet. They've already started the process of peeling off these band-aids with the big quirk reductions brought on with the skill tree.

465 m and 5 damage...as opposed to 460 m and 7 damage?

Where's the problem?

That said, I do think the tonnage in CW needs to be leveled out.

My top tier IS mechs have seen decent improvment but my top tier clan mechs haven't. I'd assume that after enough performance data has been gathered we'll see a reduction in quirks and the tonnage handy cap on Clan.

Compare the stats between CXL and LFE and then come back to me. Compare the stats between Clan TCMK1 and IS TCMK1, for that matter. Or Clan Ferro vs. Light Ferro. Or CUAC2 vs. UAC2. Fact is, a lot of these new tech are just sidegrades rather than upgrades, while still being inferior than Clan equivalents.

Now a case could be made on reducing tonnage disparity between factions, as IS had definitely benefited from new tech, but it didn't balance the factions as much as I hoped.

The problem is, even if they decide to reduce the tonnage gap, they'll most likely do it AFTER the current event... Which will make that adjustment pointless and useless until the next big FP event.

Why wouldn't they do it after the event? It offers perfect chance to monitor the new tech changes, for more comprehensive balancing.

And a perfect chance to screw the Clan pilots out of event rewards. The target cumulative match score of 12,800 is already pretty insane, and achieving it with a 25-ton handicap... Let's just say it's going to be extremely challenging. If you want to run a competitive event with the bar set this high, you first need to make sure that conditions are fair and equal for everyone.

I did 7 CW matches so far and Clans were not inferior. The matches were mostly decided by the amount of pre-mades and quality, rather than tonnage. -D5- still trashed us, despite having less tonnage.

I wouldn't care about reaching 12800 points for a stupid camo that you can buy the one-shot version for mere 100 MC. I am gonna hit 6400 points for a nice color and that's it. Any solo-pug that is trying to reach 12800 points is a confirmed masochist, on both sides.

I've played two FW games tonight, 1 win, 1 loss, and I'm at 1000 match score (566 on win, 442 on loss). Should only take 20-30 games if you're a half way competent player.

Oh well... Then I guess it means I'm a scrub :( Four games yesterday, total score of 1,411, which means an average score of 352.75 per match. Screw this f*cking event, and screw PGI's favoritism towards the IS...
