So just got out of a match and it reminded me exactly why I quit my unit and quite FW.
I just dropped with a mostly pre-made and they started calling the shots in a siege attack. I was thinking great we might actually win one but of course they just wanted to rush to the generators and get the win. The problem is I don't enjoy that. I don't want to just win the match, I want to fight my way in tooth and nail and overcome the enemy. That is what makes FW fun. The messed up thing is we still lost and I walked away with a 143 match score feeling disgusted.
The very next match was also a Siege Attack, with a normal PUG and the plan from the beginning was to just take our time and fight our way through them and it as a glorious 30 minute brawl and I had an amazing time. Walked away from that one with a hard fought, but very fulfilling win and a 437 match score.
And that is what reminded of why I quit FW. When I was in a competitive unit, all that mattered was the win and if meant zerg rushing the generators to win, so be it. It wasn't fun, it wasn't engaging, it was winning at any cost and the cost was having any sort of enjoyment from winning. Honestly this made me realize exactly what the issue with Faction Warfare really was, that the objectives weren't fun and didn't really encourage you to fight it out.
So instead of destroy the Orbital Cannon, the object should be to capture the Orbital Cannon while the defender has to hold on to it until the time limit expires. Then give both teams a huge incentive to manage their part of the mission with the fewest possible losses. If they win the match, while only losing half their mech, then the get a huge boost in C-bills, if the win but end up with only a few mechs left, they still win, but their C-bill reward gets cut in half (got to pay for repair costs after all). Basically give players the incentive to fight and give it their all rather than just zerg through in order to win, something along those lines. FW would improve 1000% if there was more to it than just winning.

Just Remembered Why I Quit Fw In The First Place

Generally teams that gen rush do it for one of a couple of reasons.
1/ low skill level, they dont have the player stocks to beat another team in mech on mech combat so they gen rush for the win.
2/ Slam dunk, generally done by good teams. They do this to try and get lots of wins to move the slider so they get their name on a planet in a short amount of time.
Cant do much about it if you are not in a unit to influence their play style. That being said, there are units that flat out refuse to gen rush, win lose or otherwise. I like these units the most myself but understand why other units feel the need to gen rush.

I hate gen rush teams, its just one of the most boring strats, pays out so very little, and is no fun for anyone involved.
I'd love to get a 12 man team going that vows to never attack the gens and goes only for the battles.

Gen rush is a valid way to win. Sure it doesnt pay much but it has its own thrills. If it is removed for more Skirmishy alternative, then be sure to do the same for Assault and Conquest modes.

Yes, playing skirmish 100% of the time all the time is just plain exciting.

I'd prefer the option to just play skirmish 100% of the time, yeah. I loved back when we could blacklist gamemodes. I came here to shoot some mechs and have big battles, not to walk around a map and stand in boxes or to shoot some generator. I want some combat and I want winners decided by who is the best combatant, not who can rush to the generator and spam 9 RL20s at it first.

Then I guess you'd be happy when something other than Siege comes up, I hate siege and have a hard time winning in that mode because I'm PUGing and potatoes.

I am not a fan of siege mode; however, if it comes up I am happy to roll with it. I have had some great drops during this event and generally drop in a 4 or 5 man premade. Have you called the drop OP? The reason I ask is because we will generally ask if anyone wants to call the drop and if no one does, then we take carriage of it. Without dropping in a 12 man you generally do not know any of the other players; therefore, any plan generally is better than none. Also guys, if someone takes charge of a mostly PUG drop, instead of saying 'you are all potatoes this plan sucks'.... try something like 'Hey guys, I don't think that's going to work, how about we do blah.' You may find that offering an alternative plan in that way is recieved better than just throwing insults out.

But that requires real, successful communications between players, which sadly is rare, probably because some people respond to criticism badly and also because why help a guy out, when you might be fighting him next match, sort of mentalities.
Also likely somewhat at least because explaining why can be difficult and/or time consuming, it is easier and quicker just to throw insults.

the invasion/siege mode probably should be sent back to the drawing board
