So far from what I've played with this mech I'm in a very love hate relationship with it. More often than not I find my self just easy pickings(Mostly due to me being a tard)even near other mechs to help as fire support. The build I've been running so far is on the

I don't like running heavy larges on it because they have a long burn time. The large pulses allows to take my shot and get into cover or jump up high and take the shot.

Only meta'ish build I can find for it. It's like a lighter shadow cat. One of the stock builds has ERML and a gauss which is interesting. I'd like to try that eventually.

Right now I run them stock configs and work from there.

My BA have 2 x uac 2 and 2 x srm 4. With LAMS. Workable, staying with bigger fellas and helping them is fun.

And my Prime (s) have 2 x lrm 10 and 2 x HLL with BAP and AMS. Hot but can dish out enough dmg expected for a light.

Im trying to have each Cougar (actually with all my mechs) setup differrently, no matter if the build are good, bad or decent. Trying to have each to their own role, use the right equipment and use as many weapons from the pool as possible.

I like to experiment and toy around with the "spare" mechs, like the standard variant/ config of the special variant. Changing pods freely and applying crazy builds.

BA with 2 x ATM 12 and 2 x LMG.

Cougar is made for aggressive missiles in my opinion, and peeking, so ATM's are perfect.

Its too slow and weak to fight well, especially with direct fire.

If they have a lot of AMS you are screwed.

Wrong. I've had multiple 1k+ matches using direct fire.

1 Heavy large with 5-6 ermeds works. As does 1 LPL with 5 ermeds. 5 or 6 MPLs are also decent enough. You can even do Gauss + 3-5 ermeds.

So anyone that doesn't go along with the blatantly bad or undergunned builds posted here has a superiority complex... Right, got it.

But seeing as you don't believe the effectiveness of the builds i listed.

I know what you did there That is just teh ultimate troller on battlefield. People would get hit by ECM'ed JJ'ing light, and would not see where they are getting shot from thanks to Gauss. For those who want to play as a gentleman i'd recommend taking 2-3ermeds, it may not be as fun but you'll contribute to your team better.

Yes you have some dull meta humping builds. Congratulations. They aren't hard to come up with, just incredibly boring and predictable.

The thread is called "favourite cougar builds?", not "please tell me about another boring laser vomit which anyone can make in 5 seconds".

I never said my ATM builds are going to be rocking MRBC. Nor topping meta mechs, where you clearly spend a lot of time.

However you come along talking like you are gods gift to cougars, slating everything that isn't yours. Get over yourself.

Then, even worse, the instant cliches appeared, like referencing reddit and linking "relevant" stats. Hence the comments about your annoyingly superior attitude, not because you don't like my builds, that doesn't bother me at all.

I could link my Protector stats, which has a 2.4 KD over a lot of matches. I also pull over a 1000 dmg in it sometimes.

Does that make it a good mech or my builds amazing? No.

MWO has far too many variables that affect match results, for these anecdotal viewpoints to be relevant. That is the point. I offered the guy an option, with my view on the mech. You offered yours. Neither is more worthwhile than the other, that is for the OP to decide.

Thus, we have the essence of a forum! Who knew?

I had fun with quad ASRM6 on my COU-BA. Seemed ok in the couple games I've played, although you're not really fast enough or armored enough to pull it off- the laser vom is probably a better choice.

Going to have to agree with Spr1ggan about ATMs. Even if conceptually they'd work well on the Cougar because you can dictate range against most targets, it's not worth it simply because you can't carry enough tubes or ammo to really get through AMS. You'd probably be better off with LRM15s tbh.
