Having a lot of fun/success with this 78 alpha laser vomit build in solo queue:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...20c8a5b788c61d2

While you have to wait "a long time" between shots most alphas secure a kill or core out even fresh heavy mechs. The best part is that you dont have to expose yourself many times.
With 4x duration skill the face time is also kinda acceptable and the range with >430m is also nice.

Mechs such as Cougar, Adder and Cicada are especially fun targets as they pop with one alpha even when being 100% armor from the front.

Anybody else using this build? What is your experience?

SNV-C with 6xHeLL's does 108PPFLD alpha, and can burn a hole in a dropship before goes shutdown by overheat.

PPFLD stands for pin point frontloaded damage. 6 Heavy large lasers definitely aren't frontloaded.

This is obvious lies, we all know from forum experts that clan mechs run so hot they can never use that... right?

I use the same build. It works well as long as you know how to poke. The only reason I haven't been playing it more is I am busy with some of the new tech and mechs.

It works well in FW too since you can save it for a cool map.

and....if they had a real heat setup in this game, you'd pop after the first one...

that is why laser vomit rules in this game.

Well, he can use that one. This one, OTOH... (it's 8 DHS fewer and like 20 heat more. And hilarious

Ive had alot of luck running that exact build on my HBR. Its incredibly hot (and you can at most fire the HLL+ERML and then follow up with ERMLs immediately on a medium heat map), but it just tears people apart. If you are ever fortunate enough to get someone's backside facing you expect plenty of 1 shot kills, and even if they give you the front, i can skin a assault's ST off in 1 shot, and destroy it on the followup shot.

That said, ive had much better luck running 2 ERLLs and 6 ERMLs on the HBR, better syncup, 64 alfa is still more then enough to ruin someone's day, and i get the utility of 1500m range out of the ERLLs for those occasional maps that refuse to let me get close enough to ERML without dying.

Both of those builds are just so brutal, and its why laser vomit has always remained one of the most reliable builds out there, insanely high pinpoint damage thats also hitscan and thus cant be evaded (even if the enemy shields damage is still damage and is going to lower their ability to trade/take hits in the future).

All things said, i really think its about time something was done about truly excessive alfa strikes. Anything over 70 alfa really shouldnt be possible to even fire, and id say even 60 is a little much given how easy lasers are to hit with and how lethal they are to anything they hit...

If you can fire an alpha that large without tripping ghost heat and shutting down, then it makes sense to do it. It means you only have to peek half as often, which translates directly into taking less damage and thus living longer to fire more alphas. It's not such a massive disadvantage at close range, because you can always split off smaller weapon groups to stay cool.

In TT heat penalties only applied after heat dissipation, at the very end of the round. 21xDHS (for the HBK version of the laser lolpha build) means you can dissipate 42 heat before checking the penalty table after firing an alpha with that HBK-IIC-A build... which would leave 24 heat at the end of the round (6x5 heat at TT ERML values + 2x18 for HLL = 66; 66 - 42 = 24- the same value as a stock NVA-Prime after an alpha, in fact). That MAD-IIC in the OP would end up with 6 heat left over after an alpha strike, which only triggers the lowest possible penalty (-1 to movement) with no risk of shutdown.

The HBK would risk a shutdown on alpha, with a high save roll, but would not force shutdown (that only happens at 30 heat, with no chance to make a save roll). It would not explode.

The MAD-IIC in the OP would actually run cooler in TT. Much, much cooler. You'd be able to alpha every other round, and fire most of your weapons (minus three of your ERML to sink the leftover heat and avoid generating more) every single round, and all it would cost you is 1 MP every other round. You could alpha twice in a row without even risking the lowest save roll for a shutdown check. If you could find a body of water to sit in while firing, you could be very nearly heat neutral thanks to your leg-mounted skins gaining double effectiveness... and then fire no fewer than six successive alpha strikes before rolling a shutdown check (two before incurring any kind of penalty at all).

The reason laservomit is strong in MWO isn't because of differences in the heat mechanics- if anything, MWO's effective heat threshold is lower than in TT. Laservomit is strong because lasers are hitscan weapons with perfect convergence, so using them is only a matter of keeping your crosshair over whatever you want to die for the duration of the burn.

Yes, there should be more heat penalties for riding the high side of the heat curve- movement, accuracy, ammo explosions... but the heat threshold is fine where it is.

Behold, the Clan Heavy Dire scoffs at your 108 alpha and extra DHS!

You are publicly challenged to run and successfully alpha strike with the Heavy Dire!

Sorry, but you didnt get the message.
The 78 Alpha is a single shot with duration of ~1.4sec without triggering ghost heat.
Your build will have 2.4 sec duration (which is aweful) without triggering ghost heat.
Furthermore SNV is way slower than MAD-IIC.
Further-Furthermore MAD-IIC has 30 DHS and your build only got 25.

Ah... and you forgot the TC1 in the head for the remaining 1.5t available podspace.

Your build looks fun. I feel like im spraying stuff with a hose when I run HLL though.

Ive been running my mad IIC with 2lpl and 6mpl lately. It still has decent speed and is a fun mech.

94 Damage alpha no ghost heat supernova. Its bad, but whatever. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...24a5980ecf121a4 2erppcs 2HLL and 4MPL. I ran it for awhile messing around but it hits 89% heat in one alpha and its a lot of playing around with either just the mpl up close or just the erppcs for the long ranged stuff.

It is fun to alpha and pop cool shot so you can hit the mpl again soon as theyre off cd.

I tried a similar build with 2xHLL+5xERML on my MAD-IIC-8. Didn't particularly like it. The alpha is decent, but long burn duration and long cooldown make you very inflexible. I ended up going back to my regular 2xLPL+5xMPL build. I like poking, but this is just too pokey for me :)

I've build the exact same Mech the other day. It's great, but I'm not entirely sure it's actually better than the old build with the LPL. I still like running the HLL build, not least of all because I want to use at least some new tech...

As per usual, the build is great as long as it gets to poke away at the enemy. If you get pushed, though...

Acutally I have exactly the same MAD-IIC-8 as you. But the normal MAD-IIC I keep the 78 alpha :D

True, true, thats one of the obvious downsides.
