Hi!

What about playing with one or two friends in quick play mode?

I am a newbie, coming from World of Tanks where it is common to form a platoon of max. 3 friends and to join the random matches that are similar to the <Quick Play> of MWO. Having such platoons inside one team definitely makes a (small) difference because the more coordinated a team is, the higher the win rate will be. But the enemy may have platoons too. For World of Tanks it works very well and I assume it will do for MWO too.

In every similar game there is a big step between random playing (quick play) and clan wars (faction play). A lot of players do not have the time to be organized in clans (units) and even if they play a lot they are unable to atted a team training or a clan war battle, because they just are not available at the time where this takes place. But such players really love it to play together with their best friends. If MWO would allow quick play for friends, this would be great. A limitation to max. 3 friends would be good to keep the balance.

I expect, that a lot players do not like this idea while a lot of players would love it. So it would be best to offer a selection where every player can choose if he wants to join quick play battles with or without groups of max. 3 friends.

Already in the game. Just group, and the leader selects quick play...

Can even do groups of up to 12.

Many thanks for the replay.

When I was trying it with a friend, it was not possible - or we did something wrong. Maybe because my friend was within the 25 first games? But helping a fresh cadet in the first games would be quite nice.

We did it the following way: <Add, chat and form groups with friends> - <Create Group> and then the <Group Launch> button was not clickable. Then we closed the <Friend List> window to come back to the <Home> screen and also there the <Quick Play> was not clickable. Could you tell me what we are doing wrong?

If we did it not correctly, then the GUI needs to be improved to make this easier.

We also have seen, that the <Testing Grounds> were not clickable for us. This would be also helpful for the first steps in the game.

Many thanks
Ralf

Testing grounds are only single player.

The group play for me at least defaults to faction play, and if you have even 1 teammate that can't play for the faction the leader is in, it won't let you play. The controls should be at least fairly obvious as to how to change the game mode from within the group list.

Fair warning: There is no matchmaker in group queue. You could and will drop against some very experienced/good players.

Testing grounds wasn't clickable since you were in a group. Leave the group and you can go in there^^

The person that forms the group will be the group leader (as shown by the little crown) and be able to add players to the group either from their friend's list or the looking for group list.

For Quick Play, the group also needs to meet a minimum and maximum tonnage restriction based on the number of players in the group and if you are in a group, you need at least 2 players to launch. If it was just you in the group, then it won't let you launch.
Try it again and get your friends to go into the LFG (Looking for Group) channel using the option in the social window.
You will be able to click on their name in either list and Invite to Group to bring them into the group you have created.

Fair warning that the Group Queue in Quick Play is probably a step up in difficulty to the Solo Quick Play and you will likely face some experienced and skilled teams.

Faction Play you probably want to steer clear of at this stage.

While you will not be able to take a group into the testing grounds or the academy, the Private Lobby has recently been changed so you no longer need premium time to access it.
If you are wanting to just have a bit of fun dueling with a couple of friends, get in some practice against live opponents, explore the maps and learn the modes etc then have a look in this area.
Note that you do not earn XP or C-Bills in the Private Lobby, but you can hook up all of the Quick Play modes and maps (plus a handful of unfinished arena maps). You can also control time of day, match duration and whether you actually need a full team.

In any of the modes, once you have your group everyone needs to ready up and fit within the limitations/restrictions for which ever mode it is.

Good luck and have fun.

Many thanks for your explanations. It may be that we hit a lower tonnage limit (we have chosen a Panther and a Raven). (Is it possible to see that limit somewhere?) We will try it again.

If you recommend Faction Play, then I think that we are not ready for it. We are in the phase where we are testing loadouts, defining the first skills and we do not own suitable mechs at the moment. Furthermore I assume, that we have to decide if IS or Clan mechs have to be chosen. And that is the reason, why we try to do Quick Play in groups. Anyway: can you recommend a tutorial that lists the rules of Faction Play and advantages and disadvantages of chosing a faction?
