Well bargained and done.
Gather 'round cubs and listen well!
There once was a proud warrior of Clan Ghost Bear who challenged the Jarl of the FRR, and leader of the ISENGRIM, to single bloody combat.
The Jarl, a proud and grizzled warrior, known for accepting all challengers and putting everything on the line only agreed too eagerly. For the Jarl rejoiced in sating the War-God Oðinn's hunger for sacrifice and gore.
And so the Jarl waited for the Ghost Bear Warrior.
He waited and waited and even attempted to publicly shame the Warrior into finally showing up. But the warrior did not come and he did not respond and the glory of Clan Ghost Bear began to wane.
Yet, even as the Bear's honor seemed to falter, another stepped up to take the shamed-warrior's place.
Galaxy Commander Jep Jorgensson of the famed 12th Bear Guards roared his refusal for derision to befall his beloved Clan. Though the skilled Galaxy Commander had no bone to pick, no personal stake in the matter, he answered the challenge to ritual combat and proved the merit of his Bloodline; adding quality to his own future gift-take by defending his Clan's sacred honor.
The long time leader of the 12th Bear Guards was no stranger to combat and was more then willing to prove his own great strength to the obnoxious Faux-Viking, the so-called Jarl whom all, the Galaxy Commander assumed, wished would shut up.
The battle was bargained, the rites and observances seen to; there was nothing left but to fight.
And so on one warm summer evening within the confines of the grey Steiner Coliseum Galaxy Commander Jep Jorgensson and Dane Jarl fought a Trial/Holmgang.
Thrice their mechs clashed! Blow for blow. Laser for laser. Blasting away the idle trappings of the foolish Steiner arena as their own molten mechs burned around them. Components burst, appendages collapsed, and honor bloomed.
First! They fought Nova against Nova! The Jarl using his own hard-won Clan tech wielded ER Small Lasers against the Galaxy Commander's ER Medium Lasers.
Second! The Jarl brought his Sky-Hopper, his favorite Griffin with more jump jets than sense. The Galaxy Commander surprised the Jarl with a flame Nova who clearly had seen more than a few mechs burn beneath its savage inferno. Perhaps had the Jarl remained in his hot Nova from the previous fight the battle would gone in the Galaxy Commander's favor, but the SRM's were too cool and the flames could not keep the Griffin down.
Third! The Galaxy Commander again changed tactics and took a quick Viper with Large lasers. The Jarl stuck with his Sky-Hopping Griffin and chased the kiting Viper all over the map. Though he took great damage in the pursuit, eventually the Viper was chased down and dispatched with a sour legging.
Though The Galaxy Commander fought ably, with great cunning, the Jarl found himself victorious each time.
When the dust settled,
the smoke cleared
and fusion cores cooled
the 12th Bear Guard leader laid low in battle, but raised high in regard. Let the songs sung in the FRR worlds remember clearly the bravery of the great Jep Jorgensson, who proudly defended the honor of his Clan.
But the story does not end there! For the the Clan Warrior, once thought so cowardly, resurfaced and promised to properly meet the challenge on the first Thursday of August! And so now the true contest can occur!
The Jarl eagerly awaits his next opponent.
