If theres going to be night fights i want real pitch black nights... not just what passes in other games as night missions where you can pretty much still see everything just as good as during the day....

Would also make people use Searchlights more carefully and actually give them some meaning. Or tracer AC ammunition.. that would be nice

Night Fighting is an absolute must.

As far as implementing it I think there is more than enough info on the planets of the Battletech systems to go off what each individual planet's dayly and seasonal settings would be. This would almost certainly garuntee that some planets in the server would always be available for a pilot's preferred fighting style.

That's another point, when setting up matches I hope they'll give us preferences to check for Day/Night Clear /adverse weather. This way those that want to fight in hardcore conditions have the option while those that either aren't there in skill level yet or who just want a good time blowing stuff up can choose the clear day option.

Night fights are fun, and so were fights in thick snowstorms in MW2: Ghostbear. I look forward to seeing some brilliant light shows.

Of course there should be some night fighting. Seeing they have so tight schedule, however, I think it will become available after launch.

+1 for night fighting! Just don't redo the sucky searchlights from MW4.

Sort of on this topic make the night and daytime skies of various planets different. Give me a dustball with 4-5 moons in the sky or a bright desert planet with two suns baking it in endless daytime!

Wait... so some people would be on your team and have one type of weather, and nother person a different type? That would be a lot of confusion on comms I think.

Should be before the game starts, and be voted on by everyone. That, or done by the world, and the time that the battle takes place, not only time of day, but type of season as well.

Draelren, I think Rhinehart meant as an option for the host or however they do the match system, not for everyone individually in the lobby. Either that or the voting method you mentioned.

As for night fighting, I'm all for it, would absolutely love to see it and all other adverse conditions possible. To me it adds a whole new level of immersion but the option for a wider variety of tactics depending on the present conditions. Would be pretty cool to have the weather change during the match too, depending on how long the matches are going to be that is. I think it would be great to start a match a little overcast or a light rain and then part way in the heavens just open up and it becomes a torrential downpour, like a monsoon.

Yes let me clarify if you checked a day/clear weather option you would be matched with a team that wanted that option and get dropped onto that type of planet. I f you checked the night/adverse weather option you would be matched with a team that favored that option and dropped on to a different battlefield entirely. This would be cool as some Merc Corps could even choose to specialize in certain types of environments i.e. Desert Warfare or Urban Combat. Speaking as a potential Merc it would also be nice if the adverse conditions added some extra C-bills to the contract fee heh.

One thing PGI will have to be sure to prevent, is the ability to tweak graphic settings to "hack" the night setting. One map I really enjoyed playing in MW3 was City Night, but players would adjust settings, or hack actual game files, so that it would work to their advantage. Am definitely looking forward to night setting game-play though even if it is something that won't be implemented for a while.

Sensors can put a targeting reticle over most targets even in the dark of night, so it's not too hard to night fight, really.

Even IRL with night vision stuff the 80s couldn't imagine, night-fighting is still hard. Also, Tech Manual says that all 'Mechs have 3 man-portable-sized searchlights (two front, one rear) as running lights or headlights or whatever OR one mounted searchlight, which is much bigger, and as any Lyran will tell you, bigger is better.

Oh hey, look, a light source on the enemy side of the battlefield. I think I'll shoot it.

Yeah, I'm defiantly in for night fighting. Also, imagine if forest fires could catch, if enough lasers hit one section of forest.... Night forest fire fighting! Better watch your heat curve. :)

Not to blow the mood but it's been discussed already. I believe PGI stated that weather/time of day would not be in at launch, but would be something they'd take a look at down the line. 2 things that the CryEngine 3 could easily handle.

You might want to check the date on the OP and today's date. :)

I think there should be an in-game time feature where the lighting levels can vary alot. All the way from mid-day to evening to pitch black. Of course every planet would be different though.

Would add alot of re-playability to maps.

I dont know how the matchmaking system works, but it would be cool if the players could customize the match settings. This would include time, weather, and possibly extended weather for matches which may drag on. If anyone is familiar with Operation Flashpoint, or ArmA, they may know what sort of thing I'm talking about. I have to say though that those two games (developed by Bohemia Interactive Studios) possess one of the most robust and powerful editors. They also release their dev tools to the community and there is a huge modding scene. Sorry for going off topic with this tangent lol.
