Even the oldest can still be effective... with a skilled pilot of course.

I still tend to use the old tech. Just more familiar and more comfortable with it at the moment and I don't think my preferred mechs actually benefit that much from it anyway.

It's good to see some oldschool mechs on occasion like the CTF-4X. Reminds me of when the clans first launched and a lot of the commonly used mechs became rare. It was a relief when I saw a Stalker on the enemy team after not seeing one for what seemed like weeks or months lol.

It's a fun build.

But I like my upgraded version better with LFE250 - 4xAC5 - 2xERML.

Throws 20dmg every 1.66 seconds, even faster with max cooldown.

I don't think I can go back.

Man I hated the CTF-4X back in the day. Glad to see someone did some work with it.

There are a few IS builds I could not improve with new tech. The Javelin SRM-bomber just works best with SL-era tech e.g. and cannot be possibly improved with CW-era tech.

I would not be surprised if a greater number of Mechs than I expect worked better with SL-era tech. It's the same in TT. A truly matured SL-design is a fearsome sight. (And yes, the royals were ultra cheesy).

Locust 1E also works better using the old tech. ERML are too hot, ERSL are too slow, but standard ML fit just right.

Honestly the only new tech build I have kept is this UAC20 3xMRM20 and 1xMRM10 cyclops, the combo works out really well as about 1 second of ballistic and missile vomit into twisting. It's substantially more damage than the old 4xsrm6 and ac20 combo, and it is the only new tech build that multiple plays with have resulted in me wanting to keep it.

This doesn't infuriate or deter me at all though, I find it good that the new weapons aren't all super powerful, there was enough powercreep in the patch with LFEs and uac20s for IS, if all the new weapons too had made the old look like crap then I would have been depressed.

I used to run with a similar build prior to the new tech dropping (XL Engine instead of LFE and standard Medium Lasers) on my 4X.

Currently, my Cataphract 4X is running with 2 UAC/5s and 1 AC/5 which TECHNICALLY has better DPS than 4 standard AC/5s (five shots as opposed to 4 in the same time frame)... at least while the UACs are unjammed. On the flip side, even with the saved tonnage, I can burn through UAC ammo way too fast and wind up with only the lone AC/5 as my sole long range weapon.

Yeah but it just looks great with 4UAC2s and 2ERML.

Tried futzing around with my Illya (XL285 3UAC5, 3ML) with new tech and in the end I spent about 18 million cbills on different weapons and various LFE engines, and ended up leaving it as is. Still a great performer even with the XL. I suppose I will switch it to an LFE when PGI drops its defensive quirks, but until then, I'm leaving it.

My CTF-4X "Gunslinger" is a part of my unit lore and my preferred ride. It's also meant to show that while meta is generally good, you can still do well in other 'Mechs.

I feel best when I get 10 or 11 assists then your helping the team

doing less then 100 dmg seems like I should have my Mech license taken away

I've been swapping out standard medium lasers with ERs and loving the extra reach, Also like the Streak versions of SRM4 & 6. Other than that, the light PPC seems pretty good.
