Everytime a new mech gets anounced, I take a good look at everything around the pre-order page and then most times go to youtube to watch Kanajashi's "Should You Buy" video of said mech. He does a pretty good job of explaining the ins and outs of the mech and of theorycrafting some interesting builds.
I also watched Snuggles Times very similar video. A little less organized, but still fun.
But there is one thing that none of them mentioned and I didn't find in the videos comments:
If you look closely at the concept art, you can see what appears to be a SRM2 launcher on top of each shoulder. At least these round, bronze-coloured tips usually stand for missiles, if I'm not mistaken.
The thing that confuses me is, that you can also very clearly see the medium lasers in the side torsos, mounted at about cockpit level. So there are already weapons mounted in these shoulders.
Plus, there is actually no variant that has 1 Energy and 1 Missile hardpoint in the shoulders. The concept art usually sticks closely to one of the hardpoint layouts in the pack, in this case probably the hero.
This makes it sound unlikely, that these are actually SRM2 launchers.
But since there is actually one variant with 2 hardpoints per shoulder (4-P with 2 Energy in each side torso), this might be kind of a teaser, where the second weapon might land. Having the second energy weapon right at the top of the mech may very well boost the power level of this one variant, even further beyond what already looks like a pretty good mech.
So what do you guys think? Am I imagining missile tubes when there are none? Has LURM-paranoia taken it's toll on me?
Or may this actually be the location of the second shoulder hardpoint? Maybe some mistake in communication between the concept artist and the actual mech modeling, resulting in showing a loadout that won't be possible?

You are imagining missile tubes where there are none.

I see what you're seeing, but they look more like MLas to me than SRMs.

Pretty sure they're just supposed to be a light bar like you see on trucks.
Go check out the second cockpit on top of the Nightstar.

ecm dual gauss how unique is this?
buying the pakc means you cna do anything, laser vomit, works, missile spam works, ballistics workls, or mixing stuff works. it's a top heavy weight class mech, with all possible combineable hardpoints on Battlemech level of customisation.

Yeah, it's probably not SRMs. If it were, it would likely have a distinct launcher on top, like the Warhammers and Battlemasters do.
Plus, if I recall it's not the first mech to have cosmetical lenses and stuff, just for some flavour.
But while on the topic: Where do you think the second energy hardpoint will be located?
There is something that kinda resembles a hatch, at about the height of the top end of the cockpit. Probably either there, or between that point and the laser shown in the picture.
I don't know how the "old" Thanatos looked. Did it have weapons in certain locations, that are not (directly) represented in the concept art?

Look like sensor lenses, to me. Most mechs have them in concept art or in model. For example, the MDD has one by the cockpit, the EBJ has it above the roof, LBK has it below the cockpit on its nose, the Cyclops has it above the ST missile launchers, the Huntsman has a lens by the side torso mounts, etc.

That's just detailing. The concept art fully accounts for the loadout of the 4S.
