Hello all, I hope this topic hasn't already been thrashed about, but I'm wondering if there will be a function (if not in-game, maybe in the Wiki?) where all the user generated unit website URLs could be collected and stored for quick reference?

I'm thinking along the lines of the old "Web Ring" concept. There is a lot of activity out there in anticipation of launch--love the sig lines, love the ones that link to a website, love some of the websites--but I'm wondering if there is any effort underway to make a clearinghouse of sites that lists active, in progress, inactive, etc. for the new user to be able assess who is out there recruiting.

If not, I think a "clearinghouse" tool would be lovely.

Like this?

Or were you thinking something more interactive?

I would, personally, like to see something more interactive. Not only whether they're active, inactive, in progress, but also combat active, showing the number of drops accomplished in the last week and month, perhaps the number of members in the unit, the number of 'active' members, whether the unit is more for casual or hardcore gamers, lore-based or video-game-based, whether or not the unit has a light, moderate, or heavy rank structure, whether the unit is role-play, sim-based, and/or active in other games/game types. I don't know if that would be too difficult, but a good portion of that information could be based out of whatever database the game is going to use.

Exactly as Kay Wolf put it, more info (although I know that we're putting the cart before the horse a bit....)

I suppose I'm thinking more along the lines of an in-game or at least more user friendly way of finding "The Clearing House"--ComStar Reports, maybe--about active Houses / Clans / Merc Groups....their current status (we're all recruiting now, but down the road we'll want more ... stuff.)

More stuff. Looking for more stuff, I guess. More stuff.

How about this? A MechWarrior Online Player Units web-ring. This will display online unit's information including their website, status (Active/Inactive, Recruiting, Setting Up), ect...On that page, you can sort units alphabetically, by status, or unit type. Additionally, if a unit lists that they are affiliated with one of the major factions in MWO, like the Capellan Confederation for example, they will automatically be added to the Capellan Confederation article page under the "player affiliated" section.

To add your unit to this list, simply fill out this form: MechWarrior Online Unit Form.

While you can add a full article page if you wanted to, the main purpose of this database is simply to make an easy to read web-ring in one place. If you want to make a full online unit article page, Peltarius has already offered to provide that service on his wiki (link), and I see no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks for setting that up Seth, went ahead and started our page. And accidentally made an extra one, if you want to delete it (it has nothing but delete in it :D)

Seth, I finally got AU set up last night. http://www.mwowiki.o...mited_%28MWO%29

Thank you for providing a place for us to do this. However, when I was editing, the text under the edit box says if I don't want my stuff screwed with, to NOT edit it where it is, but there's no alternative place mentioned to edit it so that it will be secure. I feel this board is extremely non-intuitive when it does come to editing, but I finally got everything figured out and feel it's worth it to NOT have it be completely intuitive, as it discourages editing.

Now, if there's any way to have the page locked down, so that only I, or whomever I designate to do so, can edit the page, or add other pages, I would be grateful, please?

Oh, and I didn't see a way to justify my text... I'm a sucker for text-blocks that are dress-right, so if there's a way for me to edit it and make it that way, I would be grateful even more.

Thank you, again. :D

That text below the edit box is a disclaimer of sorts. It lets you know that the info you're posting one the MWOwiki, like any public wiki, can technically be edited by anyone. I will add protection to all the online unit's pages so only logged in users can edit pages.

Another tool you have is to add the page to your watchlist. If you edit your preferences so that you are emailed when someone edits a page on your watchlist, then you will know if it it's been edited by someone besides yourself.

Editing a wiki page is very much an open format, which on one hand is good because you can customize a page to a great degree, but on the other hand, it's difficult for someone not familiar with wikitext to take advantage of. It's akin to the different between a myspace page and a facebook page. Facebook pages are very easy for anyone to edit, but they all look the same. That's part of the reason I was focusing on the web-ring. I did edit your page so that it's better divided into sections though.

To justify your text, you can add the following HTML tag around your paragraphs;
<div align="justify">Paragraph text goes here</div>

I actually think it would be a nice idea if PGI made an option so that you could purchase for real money an in-game "unit roster slot" that lets you write few lines about your unit, show a unit roster and stuff (held planets?) and is linked directly in-game. As an additional means of "unit PR" and info.

Considering the money-making opportunity and the synergistic effect of promoting regular "game clan" activity it should be a win-win scenario.

I would like it if they made a way for people to display their roster, planets, win/lost record, ect... not only in the game, but also be able to embed that same information in an iframe on their own website.

Thank you for adding the protection, I appreciate it. In all of my reading, I've made sure to add the one page to the watchlist. I've just looked at the page, and it looks good; I modded some stuff back to the way it was, however, because the Rank, Awards, and Positions section was not meant to be sub-sectioned, it's meant to be read as is.

Got this squared away. Thank you.

THIS... seriously. I'm looking at having to edit a bunch of pages between once per month or up to three months.

Again, thank you very much.

Oh that's good, cause I used House Liao as an example of a unit that would automaticall populate the online unit list and the Capellan Confederation article page. Since the page already exists, you can just edit the existing one.
