I know the last month while we were in IS I LOVE the things I ran 1 or more in most of my drop decks. I see them here and there since we came back to clan but not like I'd expect.

Sub-250 engines make me cringe, as do heavies with the speed of 90-ton assaults.

There's good things about the Roughneck, but this build is NOT it.

Sorry, but these types of mechs demand melee.

It's because they're PGI's original character do not steal so there were pretty much zero nostalgia bucks to be mined.

They'll have a resurgence when they're actually out for cbills since they're by all accounts good robots, just no one is gonna shell out cash for a robot they have zero nostalgia for in this fanbase.

Still waiting for the cbill release to see if they keep the quirks.

You forget PGI's trick of waiting until a patch or two after the cbill release of a robot before they target nerf it into oblivion, just so you can't actually point out that's what they're doing quite so easily.

Least by that point I've not spent any real life money on it and I've used it enough to recoup my ingame losses.

The issue that to run satisfactory ballistics + other weapons at a respectable speed IS mechs generally needs isXL engine while a Clan omni or battlemech would not have to worry that they might die to the loss of one side torso.

Try this out. Its one of my buddy's favorite builds, it updated to UAC10s and LFE engine with the new tech along with LFF armor.

Its pretty satisfactory dakka I'd say, and comes with some decent backup lasers.

Duel heavy peeps and a couple of med lasers as backup on the Reaver ******* rules. The high mounts can't get much better.

There is only one heavy at this point which I feel strongly enough about to pay Realbucks™ for: the Argus.

I will, however, be buying at least one Roughneck when they come out for cbills. I love the design, I love the lore for it, and I have a gameplay niche that I think it can fill. I need an IS heavy that can capably fill the role of either a missileboat or a dakka platform, and the RGH-1C looks like it fits the bill. In hindsight, I almost regret not preordering these, but it's close enough to cbill release at this point that I couldn't justify it.

But... I really don't get the pushback against the Roughneck. Not the first time a 'Mech has been invented for a BT-universe videogame, guys. Not even close.

I don't own the other Roughnecks but I did buy the Reaver when it went on sale and I'm loving it.

It's tanky, got nice hitboxes and can carry ample firepower.

I been running mine with LFE260 - 4xERML - 2xUAC5 - MRM10 or 4xLPL rest packed with DHS.

I own the full roughneck ultimate on this account, and a basic pack and the hero on my alt account. They're FUN mechs... if built to their strength...which is toughness... they're the most structure+armor quirked heavy IS mechs currently, with all but one having ballistic and missile hardpoints. I've run four of them at once in my drop deck for FW. The 1A though has no ballistic quirks of any sort though so its not really one I'd boat ACs in, and even if I were to, It'd be AC/2s or LB-2Xs, and then put some MRMs into the missile hardpoints. If you want to do an AC boat build, you're better to take the 1B or 2A which have a 15% cooldown quirk and three hardpoints. You could have three AC/5s in either, three LB-5s in the 2A, two LB-10s in the 1A, or even manage three LB10s in the 2A with 5 tons of ammo, a 225XL and 1 external DHS.

Light 280s make them faster than the standard 260 they come with, and hold an extra heat sink, and then you don't have to worry about the 1 shoulder loss death. Try a 1B with an LB-5 w/4 tons of ammo, 2 MGs with 1 ton of ammo, an ERSL, an AMS, and triple MRM10s with 4 tons of ammo. All that fits with 400 pts of armor, Endo steel, 12 DHS.

See them plenty on fw matches, esp now that the weight limit has been reduced. Nice to see something other than battlemasters, stalkers, and atlases over and over and over.

and remember, 275 +every 25 engine rating gets you a free engine heat sink slot. Although sometimes, rarely, you can bump your engine rating up 5 without an increase in tonnage.
