I don't own any Roughnecks, but I'd like to pick up a -2A because of the ballistic hard points.

Good hunting,

3A for energy poking. 1C for splat. Reaver for UACs.

Roughnecks are very tanky but nothing special aside from that. Basically everything it can do, other 65 ton mechs can do as well.

None. Some are mediocre. The rest are just bad. Better off waiting for Mad Cat Mk. II

3A with 3x LPL + 2x ERML on a 300 LFE will get you far, but it's kind of boring.

The 1C is the most entertaining, to me, because splat. But it may be difficult if you have trouble maneuvering into position for splat on any map.

I like my 3A. Its one of my goto mechs when Im on a bad streak.
2Lpls and 5Mpls.
ERmls might offer better synergy with the Lpls, but Im a self confessed potato that gravitates into face hugging range in every match I play, so I stick with the pulses.

I haven't tried my ballistic variants much other than to stick a pair of uAC10s (plus SRMs or MRM I suppose, but I can't remember) on one variant. I dont remember much about how well it performed, but I do recollect that it was quite toasty.

I recommend the 2A.

I like the 2A - nice quirks and super high mounts in the torso - I put an MRM launcher and a UAC (you vary the damage rating of each weapon to balance out tonnage)
you could always use an LBX or normal AC, etc instead

Yeah, the Reaver has better quirks for UACs, but its in the low mounted arm -

The thunderbolt has much better options for energy boating, so the 3A was out for me. I chose the 2A and put AC/10 And MRM/30 In those lovely torso mounts. It's working pretty well.

Don't own any yet. But I've been thinking about the 1C. Missiles and MGs and armor and speed sounds like a fun combo. :-)

The high mounts on the 3A plus better hitboxes let it destroy Thuds all day er'ry day.

1C is a brutal splat brawler.

They all have a speciality. Pick the one that matches what you want to play.

My best K/D ratio was the 1C.

3c will probably get you your best mileage and fits into a FW drop deck, a little boring to play though since is all pokey pokey, but its good for a +2k/d ratio.

I run 4LPL + 1med on an XL. You have alittle bit of an extended alpha since you put 2 LPL in one group, then 2 in another(this group on chain fire), then the med on another group for better fire control.

What you do when you alpha is mush all the buttons, which will let you kick off 3LPL + 1med, then .5sec later when the chain kicks in, your last 1lpl will kick off.

Its faster than you may think and you can side step GH to get your full damage out....but again...its kinda boring to play, but a consistent performer.

I prefer the 2A, I think it is... 1ac20, 3med, 2 a-srm6, std engine.

That's what I was thinking. MRMs and AC because they run cool and mount high. AC/10 and MRMs have big ammo/ton ratios compared to other similar weapons.

Recently picked up a 2A and it's performing quite well.

The loadout I settled on is LB10X, MRM 30 and 3x ER meds with a 280 LFE.

The general technique I use is mid game finisher. Open armor on targets with the lasers and blow them to bits with the LBX and MRMs. you will have better luck with targets that already have sustained damage so play concervitativly early game but get aggressive mid/late game.
