I am color blind, and night vision is terrible for me. Mechs and terrain look exactly the same so I cannot distinguish between them.

Well my account is still intact... I think?

Interesting that someone considers a color-blind support mod, the modification of UI colors, to present an unfair advantage.

I may toss a few questions at PGI to see what's up. I do not agree that changing a color presents an unfair advantage.

you know the root cause here is pgi. they don't exactly like if anything over-rides game files when their lousy garbage yellow yellow ORANGEREDSUDDENLYDEAD colors get people killed with vague information. even the sound mods were iffy to many. I think you should pursue getting the colors changed even if it takes them another 3 years. I mean look how quickly they removed an extra M hard point off the hero sadcat over p2w whining. find a good enough excuse they'll react faster. pgi could have all the modders on THEIR side by using a steam workshop method and approving mods like UI color, sound mods and possibly custom huds and colors. or you know actual HATL with numbers and bars? instead they'd rather be restrictive than find more open ways to work with people.

personally I liked how your ui mod looked, it was pleasing and much more intuitive to how much damage you may have taken. YellowOrangeRed is vague and lousy for information. but what ever.

"This mod is considered as an exploit to the game for one individual's advantage against other players..."

So PGI is tacitly admitting that their UI is so awful that changing the colors on the paper doll to accommodate colorblind players makes it so much easier to use that it constitutes an unfair advantage?

Or is it that they don't want to admit that one guy figured out part of the colorblind support problem in less than a month when they haven't in years because they don't know where half of their assets are stored or how to modify them?

Either way, bra-vo, A+ work PGI, that's the "barely better than nothing" company I know.

...But isn't the colorblind mod actually making this a fair playing field by giving these visually disadvantaged players the ability... to actually see their mech status accurately?

Also. Since some random player, no offense, could do this in about a week... can we just get an official update or an officially approved plugin, please?

Boy, I sure do dislike some of the rules inplace here. No sense in banning a mod to help colorblind people. Should pester Russ about it heavily to get him to rethink his decision.

Careful. They might take that as suggesting we harass a developer, plus mentioning him by name.

I hope not, but... lets be careful here.

I can understand not wanting the community being allowed.... I can remember back to Rainbow Six days when people would modify the character textures to neon colors so they would stand out and make easier targets. From a legal standpoint, if they allow something that goes against the Terms on a regular basis then the Terms would probably then not carry as much weight if they tried to enforce. Could be a slippery slope. Them not doing it probably more to do with time and money than just being (insert bad word here)s.

"Time and money" except it's apparently literally just substituting a couple assets. If someone knew where they all were, it could probably done by one dude in an afternoon, tops. But they don't think that that sells mekpaksTM. Posted Image

I'm asking Russ Tina for details about the decision. Be friendly about it, at least. I don't like seeing harassment being thrown over my mods.

You could always throw it up somewhere else. PGI can only police their own forums. Sure that might be seen as wrong by some, but If PGI won't make the game color-blind accessible someone needs to. While I don't really like doing that sort of thing, I fail to see how this mod gives an "unfair advantage" to anyone.

players should be able to set their hud colors using any purchased colors (there would be a few defaults players could use for free, they would be ugly like greys or something but should help the colorblind).

But, somebody did find them, and one dude DID do it in an afternoon. They could literally assign any one intern to this task and it'd be done swiftly. I would gladly volunteer my friends art skills to this. Posted Image

Also, Alcom, nice SCP reference... but I should warn you that we'll have to administer Class C amnesiacs now!

i have no problems with people using mods or even cheat software if they have a legit disability provided they only use it to overcome said disability. like if you are missing an arm or a hand or something might let you off with aimbots. i dont think id let anyone off for using wallhack, that cant be justified with a disability.

I remember before this game even went into closed beta and PGI was asking us for input and feedback right here on this very forum! (I know, it sounds crazy, but it's true!) One of the items they asked about specifically was colorblind support. Specifically how a colorblind person could tell the lasers apart. Fast forward 6 years and still no colorblind support, which in 2017 seems ridiculous. But, that's the expectation PGI has set and proven of themselves over the years.

In regards to your question; Just do it. If PGI shuts you down over it, that would be a PR nightmare on themselves. I'm not saying a blunder like this is beyond PGI, but it just seems very unlikely, even for them.

Do I come off as a bit bitter? Hmmm, sorry about that. Hang around long enough and you eventually become the enemy....or something like that.

if pgi does anything absurd like permaban you and delete your account and you loose substantial paid assets, contact your nearest disability lawyer. im sure pgi would find that amusing.

And I was hopeful that this would lead to some actual color blind options to help me see the HUD.

Sad face. Posted Image

I've only been asking PGI for this for 4 years...

And here a random player takes the time to figure it all out, only to get denied.

PGI, you have NO excuse for not implementing true color blind support.

Shame on you.
