Should be 4 buckets.

Steiner loyalist
Davion loyalist
Crusader Clan
Warden Clan

nope
look prior to the conflict there were heavy fighting (only considering the "house and the fiefs"
  • Ghost Bear vs Kurita
  • Nova Cats vs Kurita
  • Steiner vs Kurita
  • Davion vs Kurita
  • Ghost Bear vs Wolf
  • Ghost Bear vs Nova Cat
  • JadeFalcon vs Steiner
  • Steiner vs Steiner
  • Davion vs Steiner
  • Davion vs Davion
  • Liao vs Davion
  • Taurian Concorat vs Davion
  • + many many more
Ironically the first "FW" with 6 houses and 4 clans - everybody vs everybody was the better "implementation" of the civil war - while the current Clan vs IS is more the kind of 3050 invasion game style....

Isn't Victor Steiner-Davion a member of Comstar during Civil War?

When Victor originally decided to not contest Katherine for Rulership of the Federated Commonwealth, Foch stepped down and Victor took his place. This allowed Victor to remain relevant politically while not causing any disruption in the stability of the Federated Commonwealth. When Katherine went nutso (more so than she already was), he resigned from Comstar to lead his faction in the Civil War. He had a very loyal following in Comstar and some Comstar units actually defected to Victors side during the Civil War. After the Civil War and when he officially abdicated the throne, Comstar asked him to return and take charge again. As far as I know he finished out his career with Comstar and ended up marrying Isis Marik at some point after Omi's Assassination and after the Civil War. He lived to 104 years old.

One ComGuard division defected to Victor's side, the 244th, and that only after it had experienced bloody infighting because of Victor's appointment to Precentor Martial, losing a whole Level III.
You have to keep in mind it was still ComStar and the Davion-name was not exactly welcome there. Actually Victor's appointment led to a new surge in defections of ComGuards to the WoB simply because they would not serve under him and/or saw his position in the order as proof of its moral decline.
Even the ComGuards who stayed still held a grudge, and the 299th and 66th Divisions were more than happy and eager to turn their guns on Victor, announcing their intention to do so at the very start of the FCCW. Among the very last defenders of Katherine were the Battle Smokers. Conversly, traditional Davion units considered the ComGuard their enemy (old habits die hard) and there were many instances of hostility if not open combat especially when DCMS units attacked the Draconis March.

Given how disruptive Victor's first term as Precenter Martial turned out to be, and given the defections and violence it sparked, it is fair to say his standing with ComStar was less than great. It only improved during the Jihad.

Obviously he left ComStar when the ComGuards were disbanded and joined the RAF. He too then joined the RAF and served it faithfully.

It's just a summary. Posted Image
Victor has been the main protagonist of the majority of the Battletech novels (which is why many people dislike him) so there are a lot of stories to cover by this fan article.

there is enough fighting among the different faction for everybody to get there own FP event. it will just take time and some factions will just have to wait there turn. they could even do the 5 houses going after earth in a succession war scenario. and the clans fighting clans for control of the pentagon worlds. if they had a way to keep the IS and Clan groups separate they could run the IS vs IS at the same time as the pentagon war.

Though... As nice as it would be to have actual lore based FW... I somehow doubt splitting it up again is going to help FW. Probably make it worse.

EDIT: Though, maybe it would be a good time to just abandon the IS vs. Clan thing for the time being? Have everyone re-roll as a Davion supporter or Steiner supporter? I dunno. That would probably piss people off.

I have been saying it for a while but you kind of hit on exactly what I was thinking should be done because in addition to what you mentioned, the Clans were meddling in the Civil War as well. The obvious scenerios involve the split of Clan Wolf and the relocation of Wolf-in-Exile to the Arc Royal Defense Cauldron where they are nominally Steiner but pretty firmly staunch Victor Supporters. In fact they got involved militarily in the Civil War on Victors side if my memory serves me right. Then you have Vlad and his Wolf's being at least a behind the scenes supported of Katherine and also her defacto lover. Nova Cats also defected to the IS as well and took up residence in Draconius Combine space, though if I recall they are only there because they took the side of the Star League reformed but either way, they become an IS loyalist faction.

So my point is during this time frame you have at least 2 Clans that are staunch IS Loyalists and one covertly backing another IS faction so now is the time to integrate the Clans working together with the IS and finally cast aside that silly Clan vs IS balance issue that has been plaguing us.

My proposal is to use the fact that it was made known by the devs that they consider MWO to be an alternative time line from a lore perspective and just divide the different factions into Steiner vs Davion with the Clans split between the two something like this:

Steiner
FWL
Liao
Clan Wolf
Clan Smoke Jag
etc

vs

Davion
Kruita
Clan Wolf-in-Exile
Clan Nova Cat
Clan Jade Falcon
etc

Obviously there are more factions that I listed but you get the general principle. The important part is that you could mix both Clan and IS on each side of the Civil War and eliminate the Clan vs IS BS that continues to go on.
