I dont see any option in the portal to do it, and the portal just has a install button that wants me to install MWO when I already have it installed...

Thanks, but im confused as to what the registry key should look like. Can you take a screenshot of yours?
I expected that would eventually come up if someone doesn't have MWO installed on their current Windows at all. I will type the branches and name of keys to the other thread.

Well I put INSTALL_LOCATION as "D:\MWO\Mechwarrior Online" which is the folder with bin32, bin64, etc, and MWO now has the patch button...but it wants to "patch" by re-downloading all 17GB again....the string is in Piranha Games\Mechwarrior Online\Production\Install.

Question. For your current MWO install, did you move it to that location it is in or was it actually installed in that location?
Uninstall Portal and reinstall it. Does not matter where. Once installed and you click on Install MWO that windows showing where it will install it with the window that allows you to modify the location, it should be changed to "D:\MWO" PGI installer adds the "Mechwarrior Online", which it should be reflected on the next screen when you hit Next.
Now, the patcher will always say it is going to install 16gig because it has not ACTUALLY accessed the folder yet to validate the files.

I tried putting Portal on the same computer with an old client install of MWO.
I found I did not like the setup.
So I deleted everything MWO related, both Portal and old client then installed Portal.
Much simpler.

The thing is, the portal can find my MWO installation now, but for some reason it wants to "patch" it by redownloading all 17 gb of it. I reinstalled the portal and its still giving me the patch button.
Can you just take a screenshot of your registry key showing what the installation location looks like please?

Okay I figured out the problem. You have to set the install location as "D:\MWO\MechWarrior Online\" and put the backslash at the end. If you dont put the backslash at the end, MWO tries to find "D:\MWO\MechWarrior OnlineBin32", obviously cant find it because the actual path is "D:\MWO\MechWarrior Online\Bin32" and demands that you patch by re-downloading everything.
