In the latest Twitch NGNG Production Stream of 08/18/2017, Russ talked about the possibility of the Quick Play mode of 12 v 12 being replaced with 8 v 8 instead. I instantly thought of 2 negative issues with this topic when it was talked about and decided to post on the right forum to voice them.

1) With 8v8 replacing 12v12, each player slot is going to count for a LOT more in terms of impact for how the match ends. This means we can expect a huge escalation of peer pressure and players having a strong negative reaction to people running 'table top lore' builds, or 'fun troll' builds. Instead of people being reported for going AFK, people will now start a trend of reporting people for not bringing a meta-build mech for every match. People will also announce to others of players not following the meta by name, encouraging the negative view to be shared and given to those not following 'best possible builds'.

I understand that we see some of this already, but what I am saying is that 8v8 will sharply intensify this trend in player behavior.

2) The current matchmaker for the game is a joke. Tier 1 veterans that have highly practiced, superb aim and tactics are currently put up against tier 5 pilots who have interacted with the game for less than 30 calendar days. This is a reality, and this is what we see in current 12v12. Super-star players have a very large impact in the games they play in, but enemy players of much lower tier still have a chance for say, 4 of them to focus fire on the super-star and bring him down, regardless of their skill.

In 8v8 this will go away. A super star player being matched up against a team of lesser skill with the match maker being what it is will have an ENORMOUS impact on the game, and the 'baby-seal' clubbing will rise to a new problem all on its own.

If PGI recognizes the validity of these concerns and others and has solutions for them ready to go, then 8v8 could end up being a lot of fun. If it's just a quick switch made from 12v12 to 8v8 without other changes, I suggest it could be exceptionally detrimental to the game.

I think this is a stupid idea.

12v12 offers a lot more options for players over 8 v8.

I forsee 8v8 being silly fast rounds with 2 murderballs of heavy/assualt mechs laser vomitting eachother to dust in minutes. Less oppertunities for players to try things in a rounds, like light mechs going off and coming in at the flanks because you just won't be able to do that cause you leave your team down so much.

1. Less mech types on the battlefield
2. MORE BITCHING because soon as someone shows up on your team in a trash mech your team is at a disadvantage immediately.
3. Faster TTK
4. Faster matches.
5. More meta meching

In general it is going to just make the gameplay even more stagnant than it already is. They have these amazing large maps that are completely useless almost as they are now but will be even more so if they go 8v8.

Queue wait times are fine.

Just seems like a silly thing to do that is pandering to some very small subset of players that cry the hardest.

if they go 8v8, my teams are going to hate me....and cry like little girls because I don't play meta builds. I play trash chasis, weird builds, troll builds, anything but the meta. Soon as someone runs off to do their own thing in a light mech the tears are going to roll in chat. its going to be a major tear fest round after round even more so than it is now.

I was just about to start spending $$$$ on this game again....now I'm not, especially if they push this 8v8 junk. I just started really enjoying it again after all the massive changes they dropped over the last few months.
