On the plusside 2 new maps. One of them is a city map.

Also the events will be handled clientside soon, the whole system they wanted to use for FP events seems to have evolved.

Maybe going back to 8v8 (lots of pros and cons for both 8v8 and 12v12)

This really isn't a surprise given that, as far as I've heard, hit reg was the original reason that IK got removed in the first place. As I understand it, the issue is that IK were client-side rather than server-side, meaning that a mech's legs on your screen might actually be somewhere slightly different on the server end. This could result in you shooting something that looks like a perfectly valid target but not doing any damage.

Basically "Ghost Legs."

I love how he says, "We base our design decision on the popularity of the map, how many times it's voted on..."
When Maps like Canyon Network aren't even in the rotation (and unable to be voted on) anymore because they don't work with these new game modes.

Canyon is a mediocre map, actually. Good in terms of visibility and size, but bad in terms of layout.

Q2: How long does it take to make a map? Russ first said new maps were "in development" last year. (You may recall that much was made of the fact that map designers had been added to the team.) But now we learn that the first new map will come out in 3 months, and the second next year...?!

Yes, it's pretty standard stuff since like 2001 or so.

Thanks for the explanation.
Also makes sense technically.
Hit-reg can't be client-side as it would be prone to lag and cheating.
IK can't be server-side as it would probably cost too much performance and make the animation look ugly due to lag.

It is a very important and attractive aspect, yes, but Canyon's defective map layout excludes it from my top map list.
