Also, why aren't there monocle/mustache decals yet?
Also, sideburns.

You wanna know a joke?
Back a couple years ago, we were to have something similar to this. Instead, we got Decals. -.-
(I mean I like Decals, but talking about implementing something completely different but not doing it really bugs me. I'm afraid this is what might happen too, like with IK.)

I still want a top hat and cane for my atlas and the terminator glowing eyes that it once had.

And I'm also really, really glad they said no to weird things like top hats for Atlases.

Best I can do is, "It's more likely than something like ammo switching". And if you listened to the podcast or whatever it was, it's not supposed to affect damage geometry, just visual. Like the Resistance Pack units, or the special geo on the Clan Invasion Packs.

I largely don't get the crying about IK. Ok, so your mechs legs look/position differently when walking on different terrain.
Completely cosmetic/aesthetic. And you'd only ever see it on opponents/teammates (so lrm boaters would never see it period It strikes me as a very large amount of man power and time/money to sink into something with, frankly, a minimal gameplay impact (regardless of where it may have come from, like a kickstarter pledge or whatever). For all the people crying for maps, quads, new weapons, certain mechs, different gameplay modes, etc. etc. Don't you think that energy could have been better spent on something more substantial (such as your aforementioned pet interest) than "leg alignment due to ground" ?
As for this, this strikes me as being "3D decals". And not likely to take anywhere near as much dev resource to enact.

Look at the lack of attention to detail with the MadCat MK2 animations? That mech was in development for how long, and that's the crap they released to paying customers?
Hell, they switched to a modular/standardized hardpoint system to make it easier to model mechs, since they'd all share the same guns and therefore the same optimized models. And yet only a handful of mechs even have the new Civil War tech "guns.".
Over sell and under deliver.

As for the pet interest of ammo switching, let's face it; The only weapon people normally would want ammo switching for is probably the IS LB10X, so that we don't always have to pay an extra ton for solid shot. And ATMs, because most of my SRM brawlers would become HE ATM brawlers.

Oh, exactly. I understand it (IK) looks pretty, but I don't care enough to be upset about it being gone.

I agree. I mean, look maybe it would look super pretty... But all those other things of actual substance people have been clamoring for forever (maps, ammo types like LB and Inferno and Swarm or Thunder Long, Quads, and so on) could probably have used the same resources better... even if they too had ended up being canceled, salt would be over something that would have been a real addition to the game rather than just spinning rims.
Just funny that people cried so much about what amounted to a superficial thing that they were willing to sacrifice actual gameplay improvements for it... and I'm willing to bet many have no idea what it actually is. But it has a fancy name.....
anyway, I think silly bolt ons would be fun... but probably wont happen. I'd personally hope against stuff like skulls - which I'd consider sillier - but I'm certain that will be asked for. I wonder if Battle standards and the like (banners, ribbons with wax seal ala warhammer) would get added... probably it would go poorly due to extra animations needing to be added and processed by all clients.
But otherwise? I mean, people (in stories) would glue stuff to mechs, or maybe add some sheet metal shaping... but mostly it was paint jobs. Or maybe a random extra sensor & com dish. I'm not really expecting much... because really don't know what you could add (that isn't outright silly) that wouldn't be misleading like a weapon barrel.
Could they be adding cosmetic melee weapons and cosmetic Elementals?
Or stuff more like the K-9 urbie light bar? Mega horns? Spot/searchlights? (actually that'd be kinda great, because sometimes, heat/night vision just works like crap)
