I agree! Without telling my sob stories from last night, you can get a team that is half waiting to engage until the end, and half never going to engage.

Strikes are something that have been irritating me for a while and I think I'v come up with something that wont nerf strikes themselves but instead give the people on the receiving end information so that they themselves can help themselves.

Blue smoke to show friendly strikes would help people predict what direction an air strike is heading.
Betty calling out an enemy strike that is close to you. (Acts as a team mate to call it out for you)
Or potentially an icon on the mini map to show where and what direction a strike is going.

The red smoke is useless and either by the time you see the smoke (If you do at all because they can hide it) its already too late or the enemy places it just at your feet so you can't see it to be able to do anything about it. And the excuse that its up to your team mates to tell you there's a strike at your feet doesn't work as not everybody speaks English.
For me Betty calling out a strike in my vicinity is all I want.

In the last month, I play LESS than I have this year so far. Why? It's just not entertaining as it used be. For example, 2 days ago in my mech, I was targeted by not one, but THREE air strikes in rapid succession. I survived, but all it took was a measly small laser to core my engine and I was dead.

What's the point in playing the game when your subjected to this and it's increasing in frequency from my point. I mean, your supposed to be MECHWARRIOR fighting against other mechs. Either get rid of air strikes, or give us the ability to target the in-coming strike aircraft and a chance to shoot them down before they unload their bombs as in the MechWarrior PC games.

Also, in all my time in MWO I think I've heard someone call out smoke for a teammate once. I try to do it as often as I can, but most times I can't see it.

Give only the Company or Lance commanders the ability to call strikes. That would be an incentive but would need a system for punishing poor performance such as not being able to be one after a lose or some such.

Another thought would be to tie it to equipment in some fashion, say 3 tons of command console or targeting computer allows 1 strike while 6 tons allows for 2. Give and take.

I'm not sure what the issue is? That they saw you and recognized the name and decided you needed to go or that you now can't sit out in the open anymore as a dangerous mech? I wasn't there. Can't say.....

I can tell you many of us play in groups of 2 or more and when we see a player we have decided needs to go; that player then gets special attention by everything possible. Sorry, we eliminate the real threats first. Don't be "GuD" because some of us read these forums and the leaderboards, write down the names of interest and then, when we see you out there, well......... we'll find you, bracket you and then LRM/ATM/MRM/SRM you into the next match, intentionally. "Know your enemy..." You should see that as a sign of respect !!

Heck, we shoot our own Team Leader in the leg every match !!! Ask him ! A sign of respect.

Agreed. I usually write "timidity doesn't win matches" if I see my team acting like cowards, which means I type it in like 75% of games. I get insulted a lot because of it, but it's so true. Like 80% of lost matches are lost due to a team stopping and hiding after the first dorito pops up 1.3km away, or having 2 opponents push on your 4 mech line and having 3 of them retreat, leaving one to die, and the process repeats itself until your team is dead. Or the guy in the sniper light who refuses to defend the circle even though the last 2 enemy mechs are 20 pts for CT death each.

Even badly choreographed pushes with a team made up of nothing but trial mechs will probably win a match if they push together since it causes so much chaos and confusion. The team with the extra testicle usually wins.

I run into the same issue all the time, and it's so often easy to feel like part of the problem. I'd gladly lead a charge, even in a medium, but most of the time I know my team won't follow no matter how much advanced warning I give them and I don't want to charge out there like a ****** and get my head blown off by the gauss+PPC Night Gyr and his firing line of ultra-long range buddies the second I get out into the open.

That said, I've done it before and it's been enough to give my team a boost of manliness. One of my favorite moments in this game is when I charged through 3 lines of enemy mechs in my Thunderbolt and actually managed to get my team to follow me in. We steam-rolled over their mechs and won in about two minutes.

There have been so many games now where my duo partner and I get behind the enemy, pull a full lance away and I tell the team to push while they are distracted. In ten minutes, us in two mediums manage to take out a heavy and assault and by that point are requesting support only to find out our team, which was 10 v 8 at that point either hasn't moved, or is entirely wiped out. I don't understand how I can go 1 or two for 1 and the match ends with the team only having 3 kills, two of which were mine when I was off behind enemy lines. Boggles my mind.

"Anyone Else Find Matches Disappointing Lately?"

No.
They've been disappointing for a long time. Posted Image

I think the problem is coordination.
You have 12 people with different expectations and playstyles and want them to do the same thing.
Unless they are willing to ignore their ego and try to work together with their teammates, there's allways be chaos. People running everywhere. Some passive players want to camp and wait for the opponent, more aggressive players who want to push, and a few clueless people who don't know what they want.

This usually ends with the aggressive people dying because of bad trades, or a push with only half the team, or a failed push because someone decided to stop to smell the flowers, blocking the rest of the team.
After that, the passive players panic, because they can't idle around anymore, and start running.
The last survivors activate full rambo mode then and rush into the enemy lines to die.
Or they keep running away and try to hide, wasting everyones time.

If you have people willing to follow a strategy though, things turn our alot better usually.
The only problem, as many of you already mentioned, are the people who are passive and hide till it's too late.

Try Stealth mechs in pairs with 4 IDF expendables. We are training to "follow" concentrations and timing our IDF to bracket the concentrations from a danger close position..... One behind that runs into them and an arty fore that catches them escaping and repeated.... thousands in damage and they have no idea where it came from and the stealth mechs get the stragglers very quickly...... So far, massivly effective... Why isn't every team doing this???

Try "aggression wins games" instead. Focus on solving the problem, not on the problem's existence.

Haven't tried any stealth mechs yet actually. What ones are you using?

Ravens. In pairs. Stalk a deathball..... Drop an air strilke from behind (they can't see it) and then an Artillery in front as they instinctively run forward, then repeat the process as the strikes come available. With three Stealth mechs, its even better !

I don't own a Stealth mech because I'm a LRM driver and we have 2 LRM boats waiting for the stalk to engage. Once the first set engages, we pick up the tag and drop salvo's of 120 LRMs....... The second relay of IDF splits up the deathballs and the killing pair usually eats 1 or 2 damage mechs and the counter attack is quick.

So far, it's about 95% effective.... We had one team scatter and that took a little longer.

Try it, you'll like it and to be honest, I'm just tired of the same things, over and over again...

Hard to hide when your playing the Polar map and you got several team mates in your way. Yes I can see when I am currently playing my ANH assault that they would want me to go first. BUT....really, as I stated, what's the point in playing if more resort to airstrikes. Sorry, but more are getting annoyed at the over use of this. As some stated, let the Lance or Group commander have that choice or as I stated, give us the chance to fight back at the strike aircraft.

Most the time pugs do not communicate at all. That is the biggest mistake they do. They also have sheet for map awareness. Any team that communicates will beat a team that doesn't.

Some times all you can do is power down, exit match and drink more beer or drink of choice or just ram the enemy going full Jenkins chain firing everything on chain fire because rest of the team just rolled over peed themselves at first contact and died.

I didn't get to play much after the tech update because I was moving. Got my PC up and running two weeks ago and so far the matches have been rather disappointing. I have been doing about the same in my old builds, but it's kind of stale so I decided to try out some new mechs and builds.

It feels like about 50% of the matches have so many air and artillery strikes that it's not worth playing. One match yesterday on Grim Plexus I saw about six strikes as fast as they could be dropped. I know people like to say "just move away from the smoke" but you can't do that when the smoke is not in your LOS. That match was probably the most I've seen in a small area in such a small amount of time, but it's not the only match where I noticed a significant use of strikes.

Yesterday I was also noticing just how much the new MG meta is taking over. Matches where four enemy mechs and three friendlies are running around shooting MGs, some more effectively than others. I know people talk about the range, but every match devolves into a brawl so if you are patient enough range is not an issue.

The game right now just feels very gimmicky. Strikes and MGs being the current FoTM because they are easy to abuse.

I really wish the balance changes would happen faster because I don't log on much anymore it seems. There's a problem when the times I do feel like playing and I end up logging off multiple nights in the week because the matches just aren't fun. Losing can still be fun if the team plays well, but I'm having a hard time remembering a single well fought loss recently. A few well fought wins, and a whole mountain of one sided steamrolls.

Is anyone else noticing the same things?

I'd agree with you.

I thought when I saw the title it was going to be how we desperately need 8v8 so started reading in a negative chain of thought.

But your right MG's and multiple strikes have made the game irritating, rather than something to enjoy

Nothing in Polar is "hard". It's one of the easiest maps because it is "open". There is abundant cover; you just have to chose to actually look at the map.........think about what you want to do................and, fight where you want to fight.

IDF is no worse than some of the silly weapons, weapons effects and nerfing effects I've seen... It is a game.....reality, the laws of science and simple logic are suspended indefinitely.

If PGI allows "super mechs" and weapons systems with ill-logical capabilities, why not use them? Again, it's a silly game, have some fun being a kid again; and, if you fell like "painting yourself blue, arming yourself with flamers and MG's, running across any terrain at full speed, screaming movie lyrics and getting destroyed in the first 5 minutes, well than HAVE A BLAST !!!! It's a game, have fun......no one will seriously care.....
