In the upcoming changes to Faction Warfare, to the best of my understanding, the going plan is to install the following victory conditions:

*Clan victory is achieved by capturing 3 of 5 Inner Sphere capital worlds...
*Inner Sphere achieve victory by capturing 1 of 4 Clan capital worlds...
*Given current conditions, if Clans are defeated 3/5 times, they lose the phase in a stalemate condition.
*Given current conditions, if Inner Sphere is defeated all 4/4 times, they lose the phase in a stalemate condition.

Terra, once the Clans' main objective in the invasions, is not considered a valid capital world to capture and thus win the phase.

If you look at the map...you will see that Clan capital worlds are all right next to each other...but Inner Sphere worlds are very far apart...so if Clans fail to capture an IS world, they have to trudge their way through dozens of planets to reach the next one. But if IS fails to capture a Clan world, then they can just attack the nearby neighboring capital world a planet or two over.

Given current mismatched victory conditions, travel time of planet-hopping, and proximity of objectives, I don't find this system balanced at all, in a scenario when PGI has been trying to achieve exactly that, or so it was claimed...

In fact, I still find capital worlds pointless-especially considering that the objective has always been Terra-only this time, Terra has no value whatsoever in the upcoming phases.

How does any of this make any sense?

Your mistake is that you are actually thinking logically about this....

Not dozens.

Hundreds of worlds to get to the Liao/Marik/Davion homeworlds.

Hundreds, not dozens.

However the IS won't take dozens of Clan worlds so it's moot.

Mischief is right. This game mode, historically speaking is won by the Mercs. So unless some decide to become IS Loyalists it is rather moot. All you have to do is look at Tukkayyid.

The map is really obscure. I get the basic idea about capital planets; I get the idea that to attack them you need to attack the preceeding planets.

But if you look at the map it's very obscure. You have to check patch notes to look for the attack corridor planets because they are not marked on the map.

But I don't understand how could any Clan player have any problems? It looks like Tharkad is right about to get attacked, while IS is making pretty much zero progress towards of any of the staging planets.

I wonder if we get any of those spesial events when Tharkad is about to fall?

I'm still waiting to fight for Luthien. I want that tag while NS is playing other games. Dear Coordinator would roll over in his grave if some Marik aligned mercenaries held Luthien. (Though I fear that my guys would become enamored of all the saki and waifu pillows and defect to the land of bowl cuts and top knots.)

Hmm looking at it Luthien is completely surrounded by Clans and it's eligble planet. So why is it not under attack already?

blame it on FP phase 1; the whole Marik wormhole disaster was so catastrophic that Luthien now exists outside the inner sphere in its own dimension. Its functionally impregnable now.

I don't think the capital attack phase is live...

Or you actually need to surround 3 IS capitals to even open the attack phase...

I suspect they want to use capital planets as an event. Which would be fine normally. Problem is that when they run other events on (like this 2 week event) the attack gets delayed as PGI probably doesn't want 2 events going at the same time. Now, the Clans are close to having 2 encircled

Yeah very likely. Looking at the FP rules

Quote

If the Clans are able to encircle an eligible IS Capital Planet, that Capital Planet will be designated as the sole target in a subsequent IS Capital Planet Conflict. A specific period of time over which the Clans must maintain that encirclement may be required before the Conflict is triggered, to be determined at the appropriate time.

I'm guessing they want to pull the new ingame event system online and use that to launch a special attack capital planet event.

As of this post,

28 planets for the smoke jaguars to surround new Avalon (if they stop going the wrong direction, right now they are attacking a planet to the north west >_< )

24 Planets for the Falcons to encircle Atreus

3 attack phases per day, that means pgi may have as little as 8 days (6 working days) before 3 capitals are surrounded to program for their Capitals event.....

At the way things are going i think 9 or 10 days is likely..

The anticipation ! can pgi get the event ready in time ? ! is it ready already ? Will some Mercs stop playing Clan side slowing down the progression ?

(I must say without 265 tons being reduced I did not forsee this happening with all the new things IS got the balance definately changed) at a co-ordinated team play level I.S. mechs O.P. I guess theres too many casuals on the inner sphere side and too many Vanilla WoW types on the Clan side, so most games aren't co-ordinated / for the swarm , too many "for the cbills" playa's, except sharing armor and dying with less damage and winning the game often gives more cbills than losing while poking.

I also expected merc units to be playing IS side more with the new things, I so confused.

Let the games continue !

Mercs went I.S. for the 1st 2 weeks, then went clan. They never went back I.S.

7/19 clans owned 272 planets
8/02 clans owned 236 planets (lost 36 Planets
8/9 clans owned 268 planets (won 32 planets)
8/14 clans owned 292 planets (won 24 planets)
8/26 clans owned 372 planets (won 80 planets)

The 1st 2 weeks the I.S. took 36.
The 2nd 2 weeks the Clans took 56 planets.
The 3rd 2 weeks the clans took 80 planets.

The last 4 weeks the clans have taken 136 planets.

I think they need to purge the old accounts so the merc contract bonuses balance correctly. Right now the highest bonuses are on the clan side and the highest chance of winning is on the clan side. Seems to me that this is a compounding problem and counter intuitive to balance.

But contract bonuses take into account the FULL population of both mercs and loyalists, not just one, correct?

As far as I have read, yes which would make sense.
