Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book
In this tale, Mowgli is raised by wolves and encounters' the village where his life began. Taken in by his mother he adapts to his human world, but when he takes a young girl into the jungle and shows her a treasure horde, three villagers try to get the riches for themselves. When he gets hold of a tooth (dagger) he overcomes the tiger. Once the trio has the treasure they turn on each other, and in a final bit of rage, one of the men sets fire to the jungle.
The only real spooky scene is with the cobra that warn Mowgli that the ruby mounted as part of an ax is more deadly than all of the snakes venom.
Note: For my skeptics. I give a little details on some movies so that perhaps it might trigger a memory for someone who saw a movie when they were younger and might not know the title of the movie, and thus may be able to find a favorite show and watch it again. It took me years to track down a couple of movies that I once saw, and if someone had been able to give me a hint as to the title I would have appreciated it. It is for this reason that I post about some movies, so that my efforts might be able to help someone in their own quest.

Are you referring to the original book, one of the movies, or one of the other formats?

Correct. 1942 release. Not the best footage, however if you have children in the house, you don't have too much to worry about unless one wants to play tiger and there are steak knives about. Kids these days, so impressionable.

Stopped by my parents, and mom says that not only did we have that one, but we watched it a fair amount as well.
I don't remember it, but...
I have fond memories of her reading the book to us.
