Hey I am looking at creating some drop decks of mechs that are built around dual gauss. They can be heavy or assaults but I mostly am looking for input on the actual build and some play style tips.

The reason for this is in community warfare some maps are hot and I get a choice as to the deck, and with dual gauss being cold it will be more useful. Furthermore, when it comes to quick play cues I am looking for dual gauss to use there because some times I may get a hot map not of my choosing.

So basically any help in builds, tips, and or other options for cold mech builds is greatly appreciated.

Playstyle: You do not want to be tip of the spear, but also do not hide in the back. Stay within mid-range for maximum efficiency.

With 2 Gauss rifles 5 tons of ammo is good enough.

Skill for: Cooldown, Ammo Capacity, and Range (you probably will have to take some heat gens to get a few of these, but that's the skill tree for ya)

Velocity is perfect, don't need to increase it. Same thing with Gauss Charge, no need to take it.

IS drop decks?

Usually when you have the tonnage and hardpoints, gauss rifles pair well with PPCs, or mid range lasers.(ERM or large pulse) ERL is not too bad either but I'm not sure any IS mech can do two gauss and three ERL, which would be the optimal.

Sometimes you can take just one gauss rifle and them some lasers, but it depends more on the hardpoints, their locations in particular. With two gauss plus others you don't need the greatest high mounts, but with only one gauss rifle plus energy weapons, you'd want not to expose your whole mech to fire all.

I haven't used much gauss files on IS mechs because they weight more, then LFE weights more, and then endo takes more slots that basically no IS mech can have two gauss plus others while with endo and ferro.

I think it's far better to take lighter weapons which can be pretty much as heat efficient with little less range but far better DPS.

twin gauss is kinda rough for IS mechs.

The few mechs that have the tonnage to use them usually have other drawbacks

KGC = low mounted
Sleipnir = low mounted
Mauler = works better with dakka
Warhammer = requires XL or small (very slow) lfe, esp if you wish to pair it with other weapons, (which are usually lasers, which means your build is hot again)
Jager = requires XL and cannot carry additional weapons
Rifleman = like Jager, but worse

Can also be done with LFE 250, but yes might as well have an XL for speed.

HBK-IIC (200 engine)

Mad Dog (can shave off armor for a 5th ton without being too vulnerable)

Ebon Jaguar

Night Gyr (Best heavy platform for dual gauss)

Timberwolf (not recommended)

MAD-IIC-D / Scorch

Warhawk (dual gauss/ 2 ERMLs + both ammo skills will give you 78 slugs to work with)

MCII-1/Deathstrike (current best platforms)

Supernova Boiler (hero)

Direwolf

Kodiak 3

Those are just the dual gauss mechs.

The Catapult can also mount dual Gauss, and strip arm armor to do it. But it doesn't have the good HPs of the Jager.

Warhammer 6R with 2x Gauss + 4x ERML

It's basically the go-to for IS dual-Gauss builds; there is no IS Heavy that does it better. With durability tree, the armor scrammed is not as bad as it looks, but you can always drop engine to a 270 if it makes you more comfortable. Speed is adequate for its intended role, matching the Night Gyr.
