Then I suppose we shouldn't let people observe teammates when they die because they'll see their builds too? Or block out names so they can't shame you if you don't score well? Or make all scores private?

Come on guys. Target Friendly is a useful feature we would be better off having. The pros out weigh the minor inconvenience of getting your feelings hurt whenever some random pug doesn't like your build. People have hated on my builds for as long as I've been playing this game. It's really not a big deal. Just mute them if they get annoying. If they cross the line you can report them.

With or without this feature lots of people are going to see your build when you play.

What pro tho? I see none, you cant change loadouts in a match so why does it matter?

All the pros are in his post on the first page.

Its not just about loadouts. Knowing how damaged they are is just as important.

Will this guy push with me? Is he going down in one shot or can he take some hits? Percentage HP can be deceiving. Does he need to fight at distance or close range?

The more info you have the more capable you'll be on the battlefield.

Yer I would be great to be able to see friendly load outs and paper doll. I've wanted that since beta.

It's bad enough that the enemy can see my paper doll, I don't want my secrets to be visible!
Knowledge is power, guard it well

but seriously, if you could target friendlies the first five minutes of every game would be people bashing each others load outs and team killing the ones that isn't good enough.
If you absolutely must have that information about friendly mechs, ask them. This community was moaning and bitching, bitching and moaning to PGI to give them in game VOIP, why don't you use it?

Just seeing someones load out tells you nothing about how they will use it. That LRM dude might be the most aggressive person on the team and push right up to the enemy and use those missiles as direct fire weapons. While the medium laser mech sits back at 6-700 meters and just poke at the enemy. You don't know unless you ask, so start communicating.

Would be nice to be able to quickly check on my teammate's health. A bit of a bummer to let your 80% lancemate take point without realizing his CT's bright red when your 60% but more evenly spread 'mech would have been a better choice to lead.

Nothing gets done unless you Tweet Russ.

Lets all tweet Russ and see if he can implement it.

This would be mint; Knowing what builds/effective range(s) your team has before choosing where to postion/engage...

everything is in the title: I want to be abble to target allies.

No reason why not.

These are the comments that make me glad I cannot play due to connection issues, if only those issues did not affect other programs.

We already have automated systems in place to discourage and punish disconnectors. This is a non-issue.

And how is that working out, no one DC's anymore ami right? ;)

I wanted this also since open beta. Without missile lock ability for safe lrm boat teamkills (wait....what?) it would be another "info warfare" tool. The armor percentage shown while pressing q button for guessing their health status and examining other players loadouts with the naked eye at every start of a match isn't enough information.

Seeing another guys loadout helps a lot. If i see a black widow with 4 barrels sticking out of his torso i know what he is up to, but if i see a laservomit build i have to wait until he fires a salvo to know if he is short, medium or long range. And VOIP is not the tool for presenting loadouts, but for calling targets and commands. It should be a visual feature.
As you mentioned, a pilot always can act different to his according role defined by his loadout, but most of the times he won't (if he is a sane person).

pretty much this...it'll just end up some dudes scanning their team then talking crap about anyone not driving a MetaMech.

Oh yay...."potato shaming" just got more efficient!

I guess you are way too anxious of internet hate and teamkilling (which is sanctioned already by wait time). Even without these features some people talk trash if they see some lrm tubes. You can't change their minds. It also depends if you play quickplay or FW. In quickplay even the weirdest builds are tolerated most of the time, whereas in FW it is a jungle out there.

I got badmouthed at one point for having LRMs.

I then proceeded to one-shot someone with the 48 ATMs I actually had installed and got accused of hacking because "Nobody could kill you with LRMs.".

I'd love to have the option to at least check layouts at the Ready screen just to know the basics. Speed, weapons, etc.

I have yet to see a valid pro. Also you never really know if they will push with you even if you ask so this wont help with that either. I can already see how damaged they are so no help with that.

No point in this, ask if you need to know otherwise there are more important things needed in this game.

generally dont like the minimalist one button targeting system this game uses. used to be able to fill up a couple hat switches with targeting commands and never get them all.

as for why, sometimes it helps to know your team's health status and armament. like if im escorting an assault id like to know whether or not its rigged up as a lerm boat.

Some things are easy to tell - we can tell percentage health already by pressing 'Q' (I think that's default?) and we can see if they're missing an arm or leg or are smoking or whatever. I'm more interested in a specific loadout like we get when we target enemies. I can it being limited to Company Commander I guess but it'd just be helpful and doesn't seem too difficult to implement. As a Lynx pilot I understand the point about build-shaming but if that's happening then it's probably people who aren't that interested in working as a team anyway. Lots of folks try crazy builds on both sides so it never hurts to have a wildcard. Worst case scenario, they learn something and sponge up some Red fire.

At least that's usually what *I* do... ;)

"Abble to target my allies"

Am I the first to see this and point it out?
