A dislike button would really be able to cut down on how many posts I have to make to tell a person how bad their idea is. It would be nice to just have a visual representation of how many people disagree with an idea.

You forgot 'nerf RACs'!

Have to admit that all the 'cry nerf' threads are beginning to put me off these forums.

However a 'dislike' button would not be confined to 'nerf' posts. How about moving all nerf/buff threads to a dedicated subforum?

What would prevent people from creating a bunch of alts and mass disliking this thread?

Nothing.

What prevents people now from creating a bunch of alts and mass liking a thread? Nothing.

It really doesn't matter much outside of some weirdo who is way too obsessed with internet points. For the general population it just works well to show if you like or dislike an idea rather than having to spend a few minutes to say that you dislike it in a post, which many aren't willing to do with how many bad ideas and nerf threads we get now a days.

We used to have a dislike button but it was too salty.

God, no. Dislike buttons are absolute dogshit, they encourage blind, ignorant bandwagoning behavior. They're a cancer that destroys discourse.

If you can't elucidate as to why someone is wrong well enough to convince other people, and they're not obviously wrong enough to do so on their own, tough *****.

Basically all reddit-esque formatting is awful and thoroughly detrimental to any sort of constructive dialogue.

I would use a dislike button on this thread if they had one.

Just look at reddit - that place has a dislike button and discussion quality is lower than the average forum.

You have a dislike button, it's called "post", you just have to reason your response as best you can and we are shown exactly how reasoned or unjustified your dislike for something is.

It is the best system by far.
