With all these new skills, and quirks and such I feel lost when I look at my poor Founders Catapult. My only heavy. My original Build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8c2facda8e00598

I swapped out the normal AMS for the Laser AMS.

Main issues is I feel like I don't know if I should be LRMing.. which I kind of enjoy in some matches.. Or if I should maybe be MRMing and being more medium range/brawling.

Also wondering if I should find a way to drop some weight (IE change Engine) to change out the LRM 10's to LRM 20's if I stay LRM or go with a high weigiht MRM.

Also I'm a F2P-er so I have to earn everything, so I can't use MC to buy anything right now. :\

Any Advice on continuing to play my poor Catapult would be appreciated.

Hey Web

I feel for ya man... I miss playing my FounderCat too. Shame no one has even replied to this, but its a testament to where the Cats are sitting right now, under appreciated.

OK due to the state of the game, depending on tier of play, LRMs are either a crutch or an outright taboo. In a nutshell, LRMs are proving to be unreliable and largely sub-par on dmg compared to the current direct fire environment. Not saying they aren't fun, just depending where your are on the scale, LRMing might not be as fun as it once was.

understanding you are F2P, the links are just what I've don with the old girl.
The fist link is the build I've been using since forever. Really didn't change it much. Was pushing LRM20s at one point, but ammo was an issue. the ALRM15s are a nice fit and allow for the C1 to at least have some backup MLs.
Remember regardless how you play it, its still a heavy. You run out of ammo, get up in here and share that armor. The TAG is critical, don't leave home without it. Even after ammo is out, you can still spot those ECM buggers with it. BAP too... LRM boats need BAP.

Classic LRM C1

This second link is what I'm messing with now. Haven't live fire tested it yet though. I personally like the LPPCs performance on other mechs for heat management, but you can play with that part as you wish. Problem with this build is that its expensive with new LPPCs and the L-Engine300. The ASRM6s are literally just for that short range coup-de-gras and defense under the PPCs min range. I suppose you could go with Streaks, but I'd equip a BAP if you decide to go streaks.

So good luck and have fun. I'll have to dust the old girl off again real soon myself.

There are quite a few decent Heavy mechs you can - and probably should - look into. All Catapults are decent (at least the C-Bill variants; I don't have the hero variants, so can't to comment on them).

Honestly, AMS isn't as necessary as it might seem at first. Get three Radar Deprivation nodes in the skill tree and/or stick to ECM-equipped teammates and/or learn to dive for cover when lurms start targeting you.

C1 can go either way, your pick.

Light or XL Engine. If you plan on brawl range, Light. If you plan on lurming, XL. You don't really need a 300 rating.

IMO, 15's are optimal for this chassis. 20s eat your ammo too fast and produce too much heat to sustain the barrage for more than a handful of shots.

I had a similar expierience recently and have been trying to build a somewhat useful build for this mech. LRM's as main weapons seem only reasonable when playing as a coordinated team, as you lack other weapons. I tried to negate this issue by moving to energy as main weapons, and using missiles as additional damage.

Right now i'm running 2PPC's, a MRM10 and a MRM20, 3 tons of ammo. All with the standart engine, the rest filled up with Heat-Sinks and Armor.

I usually do some mid range-peeking, staying in the second line of the fight, and using MRM's to fire at anything that gets to close.

Although not as succesful as other PPC builds, it is still quite fun, and i'm doing an average of 400-500 damage per match.

I tried using LRM 10's with this configuration, but the MRM's seem to do better. The most likely cause is the difference in playstyle. Peeking which is necessary for PPC's works well with MRM's, but not with LRM's.
SRM's can work too, but you don't want to get that close with a PPC build. Additionally MRM's pack more punch. Same seems true for SSRM's as well.
At last, i tried using Heavy-PPC's with Rocket Launcher 40's in each arm. Although this build is fun to play, it lacks damage output, mainly because of heat issues with Heavy-PPC's. That beeing said, you are definetely going to make one assault rage-quit the game.

I guess i stay with the 2PPC and MRM build for now. Not the best build i have, but fine for some PPC action on the side, and finally a reason to use the founders cat once more.

2x Artemis LRM15, 4x ER ML, 300XL, lots of ammo, a few JJs, and firepower skill tree for the missiles.

This!
Yeah, I think the artemis 15's would do better than the 20s.

I would rather have DHS over JJ's though.
