i play with my friend, with 1 light and 1 medium, and it take us almost half and hour to wait for 1 game????

we play from UTC 1300 pm ~1530pm

with 10% light , 25% medium, 40% heavy, 25% assault in the matching system

sometime we got only 1 assault in whole team but the enemy got almost half ????

how "clever" can the matching system be ????

Shush!

/looks furtively left and right

You have no idea who you're dealing with.

They may interpret that as a challenge!

How idiot?

Pretty damn idiot...or maybe just unbelievably limited.
In group queue, it seems the MM has an even harder time of it than in solo, as the population is even more limited.
Nightly, we (we being my fellows and I who drop regularly as an 8-12 man) see the same names and the same teams, over and over and over. On occasion we might have 3-4 matches in a row of the exact same match ups, even when going out of our way to wait a bit and try to get a different group of opponents and randos.

So if the opponents are small groups running assaults, well then we are going to have an evening of our relatively light 10 man (as an example) repeatedly going up against opponents whose teams are 6-8 assaults (and occasionally more) to our 1 or 2. So your plight is not so much the MM being idiotic, but rather the MM having not much to work with, I suspect.

how can the MM even make proper matches when the tier rating is quite a mess already?

GQ is like that. In SQ, It took me less than a minute to find a match. Your best bet is to play during NA prime time.

I thought the well known secret was that there is, in fact, no concrete matchmaker due to the limited population?

That's not the well known secret. PUGtopia has always been better done solo so your don't embarrass yourself with trash builds and LRMs while piloting assault mechs. Also done in shifts.

Oops I told the secret. Back to the salt mines I go.

i find it offensive to call members of pgi 'engineers'. engineers design solutions to problems, the people pgi calls 'engineers' seem more interested in brushing problems under the rug than fixing them.

also a matchmaker cannot work without a meaningful population. this only exists on weekends and a few hours during the na phase. id rather pgi abandon this silly notion and go back to random. put effort into other issues.

Not totally sure, but not filling your tonnage might make it take longer (or using most of).

Its also a serious **** move to the 10 man you might be paired with.

Every time i see this brought up I worry about "matchmaking" players together. Yes its amazing when your given a wide birth of players so you can both realize you've learned something and occasionally flatten a new guy, or get absolutely crushed by a good player then pickup on more stuff you could be doing or need to adjust.

What bothers me the most about most online games these days is exactly that. they bucket people together based on inferred skill, accurate or not it allows them to stagnate and multiple metas arrive for each skillgap that exists instead of having one cohesive top tier playerbase who interacts with the good / regular / new / bad players.

That's a huge deal most of the time, or at least it used to be. People would actually help other players, imagine that, learn things or improve their game if they'd listen. Everyone's seen some vitriolic ******** but we've likely also seen a game or two with a few tier 1 guys who actually play like it destroy people. Genuinely entertaining and informative. I'd never have been able to field ANY of my assaults without you guys here on the forums and god knows how many players I've spoken to in game about using the fatbro mechs properly. Especially since I'm not big on the lore and don't have any idea why X 100t assault is better than Y 100t assault at face tanking other than reading armor quirks etc:.

You need players to interact across the entire skill range occasionally. If 8v8 does that fine, if 12v12 does that, fine. Neither will bother me. But its something of a matchmaking issue when you're gated off from certain players, good or potatoes. (though I certainly understand peoples frustration with the latter...)
