Everyone sees people do well in Kodiaks or whatever the FOTM mech is. What's really impressive is when people can make some random mech shine. I'd like to propose a new modifier and leader board that gives you points based on the % of players who drop in your mech. So if you drop in a Cheetah you don't get any modifier but if you drop in a Kit Fox you get a bonus. I'm sick of seeing the best players in the game use the most overpowered mech available. It would be good for the community and also a real show of talent if everyone would show how well they could do in the worst chassis out there.

There's already a conspiracy theory (That I may have started...) that good players dropping in unused mechs is why random crap gets nerfed. Don't feed the balance lords!

On a more serious note, it's just another system to game, another meta to be played. It'll get abused, just like everything else. Just run what you like and have fun.

speaking a foreign language for most video gamers these days. Very very few believe in giving themselves a handicap anymore. Used to be a point of pride (and Hubris) to do so.

When I do see comp tier players in "non optimal" mechs though (and there are actually a few out there who like it) I do respect it a lot more than when someone uses the metamech of the month then wants to brag about how amazing they are. (Mind you in actual comp on comp play, I totally expect em to use the best tool available).

Well that (and omni pod swapping) is about the only explanation for them claiming the motherfrikking Summoner Prime is an "overperformer".... *SMH*

No Russ and Chris. it's not. Summoner Prime (I) with Loyalty ST Pods were your overperformers, if any actually did "overperform".

I remember dropping in UAC20 wielding Adders frequently and pushing out over 500 damage a match easily and having a lot of fun outplaying enemies in a mech with obvious disadvantages. Then the Adders got bigger, they got their ballistics quirks wrecked, and UAC20s got demolished.

Similar stuff happened when I used to use an SPL Executioner, Executioner has had pitiful quirks and still does, CSPLs got destroyed, and I'm pretty sure its mobility got worse when engine desync happened.

Just earlier this month I was using the Supernova and pushing out high damage using an unconventional single heatsink build with 6 ERML+2HLL and pushing out high damage in any match in which I wasn't focused. Now Supernova mobility is nerfed to the point that they have no reason to be used over a Marauder IIC.

I may as well just use the flavor of the month, at least then I'll know the nerf is coming instead of hoping the terribad mech I'm using gets a buff only for it to get kneecapped.

What kind of a bonus do these "best players" get for running, say, a Panther 10P? Without strikes?

Point being would such a rewards mechanism be a race to the bottom for folks? Who can bring the crapiest/least optimized mech/build and still perform...sort of a reverse meta kind of thing?

Of course it's another system to be gamed, but at least these guys won't be in tier 1 mechs. It would be somewhat of a balancing factor with MM and tiers being such a joke.

Yeah, well, lots of those good players are sick of PGI not doing enough to make weak mechs compete.

C-bills and bragging rights. Not that any of those guys need c-bills, but their name on a shiny placard in front of everyone else might mean something, maybe. I've been playing a lot of Planetside since leaving this game and when anyone talks tough I just tell them to go to NC and show how good they really are. It's easy to pull high numbers from an alpha boat in the back, try it with a Kit Fox from the front if you're that good.

It's almost as if being able to discern and maximize a chassis's effectiveness is part of gitgud.

I have only played my Cou-C since its release. I will ONLY play my Cou-C. I'm not great at this game but you ******* know when its me. You know why? I've never seen another cougar pilot. I bet most of them couldn't figure out how to not cook themselves with all of its laser hardpoints.

I've only ever known a few people who really cared about the leaderboards. And if they care about that, they probably care about their K/D which running weaker mechs would hurt unless you adjust that too.
And we sort of had a event like this not to long ago when the new clan heros and cbill variants came out. When that happened some of the boards didn't even have 75 people on them, The Executioners only had around 55 players each.

Though I guess you could see some mechs get used more, but it would probably just shift over to a few pretty quick. I say that because sometimes good mechs just take a while for people to notice. The Warhawk and Ice Ferret were both actually pretty good for a while before a lot noticed, actually a lot thought they were bad.

Ummm so people should run trashy mechs cos good ones means you try too hard?

Hey it's a game... play whatever you want. I perfer it when my teammates bring something they are effective in whether favour of the month or trash tier.

This is a good idea for the wrong reason. It would be neat to see an automatically adjusting c-bill bonus for lesser used mechs as to encourage more variety on the battlefield and give players a compelling method to gather more c-bills.

Apparently, neither have you if this is any indication.
Honestly, it's more a matter of Cougars being real-money only at that point. Once they drop to C-bill status, you'll see more of them, just like the Kit Fox.

Without being too snarky, the reason you don't see many Cougars is because a) its cash only, so not a lot of people have it, c) not many people play lights to begin with, d) because of your tier, there's more new people around who haven't spent as much, or any money, on this game, and e) the game doesn't put many light in each match, so if you're always playing a light, your odds of seeing another Cougar drop dramatically.
