I cant install the game. The Portal thingie gives me an error message when i click on the INSTALL button.

- new Windows 10 installation
- I played the game before the latest patch with the MWOclient.exe -nopatch. No problem at all!
- then new patch is needed so:
- I downloaded the latest portal install exe
- installed the lates portal thingie
- start portal thingie
- now i need to install MWO first (apparently), even though i have it already on my HDD
- when i click on INSTALL = error

(i dont use steam)

wtf install tool. This portal thing is useless. The previous patcher system was not good looking eather but at least it was working.

And why is there no software support sub-forum? where i am supposed to post such a problem?

Install the game via Steam. Only thing I can suggest if the portal is giving you such errors.

The error message seems strange (and yes, I know it's german Posted Image )... You sure you have admin rights? Also you might want to contact the support directly. They have a whole lot more tools to help you.

Dunno if Steam is something you might want to try, seems to have issues of it's own.

What I could find with a quick search:
The error message is at least not client based, it's a Windows issue. Might want to check this out. Might be related to disk health, special characters in the UAC (umlaut), faulty Windows installation.

Look at the very top of the page (the navigation bar), click on support: Technical inquiries: technical(at)mwomercs(dot)com. They're usually pretty fast.

I remember someone having pretty similiar problem. He also had German windows. He said it clearead but was it because he fixed it, or just reinstalled Windows? I thought it was some kind of file access problem, either due to file rights or having unusual characters on Windows username.

If you already have the game installed, you could just fix the reg keys to make the portal notice the game. Then it should be able to just update.

yeah, i was thinking about that too, but decided to complain about it first on the forum. I dont think that the user have to fix the software. This new portal software is broken. If PGI will not fix it here, they lost another player.
It is honestly no wonder that this game is dying (http://steamcharts.com/app/342200#All) if even the installer software is so broken, that even vets cant use it. I will not spend hours of registry edits just to be able to play this game.

PGI, please implement an automated path fix function or a simple exist query. The Installer itself is also broken if it dont get internet access (FU all personal firewall users!?) it will stop working/crashing and needs to be restarted.
I am frankly quite pissed about that Portal thingie. A worthless piece of ****, IMHO

Disabled UAC doesn't automatically grant admin rights, you still have to individually tell it to use admin rights (if it doesn't automatically request them). Do you have region specific characters in your username (like umlaut, ß)?

Another vote for Steam. Never went back to the stand-alone installer after I went for Steam.

I haven't had any errors with Steam (none of that invalid file ******** I got once every 4 patches or so, this was back when there was a patch each 2 weeks so this was quite frequent).

I've also got the distinct impression that the updates are way faster as well (mainly because it doesn't seem to have a install validation that takes ages)

Steam's 100% free, it will only cost you money when you start buying games for money (instead of all the free ones on there), so that's completely in your hands.

iirc it had to do with the actual location permission, where the game could be installed vs where it was trying to installed by using default installation, or was it the folders that were created or existed but the installation was trying to install the actual files in a non-existent folder.

That and Windows can give headaches due lots of permission issues or lack thereof with programs installed in Program File directory. Many reason, especially for games that I never use default install but a customized location (c:\games\Mechwarrior Online).

To the OP you said this was a new Windows 10 install, right? Like brand new or an update?

If it's brand new it may be a C++ issue. I had to find the latest version of C++ for both of my brand new systems (one for my son and one for my wife) but that was quite a while ago. Good luck!
