hell you can'ty even LRM boat with them anymore since you nerfed LRM5 to the ground.

Are you leaving your CT missiles open, or not putting missiles in them?
Because if you 1) have a CT missile launcher and 2) have them closed, you have at least a 10% damage reduction.
On the one with two launchers if you fill both CT launchers, you actually get a 20% damage reduction provided the door is closed.
That does require a bit of playing with the door key to make sure you can fire exactly when you want since it screws with ghost heat, but... It does phenomenal work.
What part of your Kintaro is "dying" easily?
Personally I've run a combination of SRMs, Streaks and an LRM-20 in them. Though I may replace the SRMs with MRMs.

I think Kintaros have reasonable armor. Missile quirks, however... Maybe. Might depend on the variant.

Small pip in; You get 20% damage reduction with doors closed no matter how many missiles you fill in those spots.

You should. I agree.
But go without it... get shot up... go with it, get shot up by the same weapons in a controlled environment...
...and you'll find that you die a lot faster if you don't have them filled.
