First remove the top players from the stats you are observing, because they are raising the stats of anything they are using way above their real rating.

Then remove the bottom players from the stats you are observing, because they are reducing the stats of anything they are using way bellow their real rating.

Then use the average performance of only the remaining players, to have a real idea of the real average performance a player can get get our of whatever it is that they are using.

Short of that bottom players just flock to whatever is currently rumored to work the best, greatly reducing the average efficiency per player of whatever they are using (if you take every last player from top to bottom into account), which in statistical average turns even the best performing equipment into the overall statistically worst performing one (because there are a LOT more bottom players, then top players).

If you want to check the average performance of something : Focus on the performance of it's average user.

As an example :

- Top players can headshot assaults with a pair of flamers and some short range lasers equipped on their light mech, and that has nothing to do with short range lasers doing too much damage, or headshots being so easy to perform that you can safely make an event out of performing a headshot within 24 hours...

- Bottom players can't hit the side of a barn with srms, and that has nothing to do with the Assassin 4xsrm ASN-21 variant performing badly and requiring a boost...

So when balancing MWO remove what the top and bottom players are doing from your stats observations, and you will then start seeing MWO the same way the average player lives it.
