How about an example.
If there are two versions of let's say AC10s
Both weapons deal 10 damage but one does so in a single shot and the other deals damage over a short duration burst.
The single shot cannon is heavier and larger and has a higher heat per shot. The more optimized use of this gun is to hit and run from mid range. The higher heat reduces the endurance of an engagement yet the pinpoint 10 damage hit rewards an accurate shot with concentrated damage that is not potentially deminished at longer ranges.
The burst fire AC on the other hand is smaller and lighter and uses less heat per shot. This weapon is best used in a brawl because it has better sustained damage over time and the nature of the burst fire mechanic requires a closer range to target to improve the chances of hitting the same component..
Two AC10s but two distinctly different applications of the weapon.
