Need Help With Viper Builds

So, what are the go-to builds for this mech? Not used to piloting 40 tonners. I prefer my mediums to be in the 50 ton range but felt like trying something new. I have the Hero and the standard variants.

5 small lasers and 4 machine guns on the viper c.. play with arm lock off. Be sneaky and win. Max your leg armor. Dont run to much machine gun ammo it will cause more damage to you than it will the enemy if your not careful. I run two half racks of mg ammo if i remember right.

I was planning on trying SPLs during my bi-annual return, but with their nerf it seems like you're stuck packing MLs in the thing, which is boring. I just don't see any point in taking this mech, especially with engine de-sync.

I would say cersl work well on it, but since they just got nerfed, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe heavy smalls?

That seems so much worse than a Cheetah with 6xMGs and 2 heavy meds and ECM, or even a MLX with 8xmgs and 4 smalls, and for twice the tonnage and similar structure.... I just don't see this mech having a purpose.

If only PGI hadn't been systematically nerfing every single low-tonnage energy weapon...

What the actual fudge?? No way they nerfed c er smalls. They were not even close to being op. To do significant damage you have to do sooooo much work in close quarters.. you got to be kidding.

The CERSL been nerfed in duration, heat, and cooldown for quite a while now, because *clearly* the IS SL was totally balanced all along.

I know the small pulse got nerfed 5 months ago or so... did not know about the clan small lasers.. im guessing pgi is irratated that no one is using their new micro lasers and stuff. Sorry 100 meter optimal and 200 max is trash. Heavy smalls.. crap.. heavy mediums crap.. micro lasers crap. Micro pulse lasers crap. Mediums lasers defintely crap now. Guess back to med pulse lasers meta.. derptastic. 5 second cool down is a joke.

micros were also nerfed a bit LOL don't think PGI is irritated that nobody is using it, it's that magical dartboard at work... this is proof.

Actually i thought the balancing crew was doing a pretty good job the last 5 or 6th months.. than this patch happened and its obvious either some wierd micro managing is going on or someone really new at their job.

Small pulse needed to be toned down a bit. Not nerfed into the ground but i just delt with it. Strange the dart board you speak of noni but it makes sence.

penta mlas used to be good with proper positioning. The high thrust allows for hover sniping on maps like polar domination.

I run my Viper-C with 4xMG and 5xERML. You need to invest in heat skills and cool shots. It is excellent for Quick Play as it works on any map. It is to hot to brawl for long so vs the lights just alpha strike a leg then finish with MGs.

I run my Viper-M with 6xERSL and SRM6. It is a good little brawler.

Vipers are fast and really agile. Skills in jump jets actually make a difference on this mech.

Being on the receiving end of a few vipers. Er Smalls and machine guns are great if you want to brawl. If you want to stay at range a few er mediums work well. Not a Clan pilot but been killed and killed a few of them in my time.

My best performer is the usual VPR-C with VPR-A side torso pods running 5x ERML.
Then it's the Medusa with VPR-C side torso pods, with 4x LMG/MG/HMG & 6x ERSL/HSL/SPL/ERML.
I've tried to make a 3M + 0-3E build work with ASRM6/SRM6/SRM4 but it's not great.

Small/Medium lasers + MGs seem like the best options.
