If you hate a perfectly fine Mech without being able to tell why, I fear you'll have to try the others for yourself.

The Huntsman is a pretty good mech. It's got a bit of a space problem, but is fine otherwise - Not lightening fast, but it can jump, and it's got plenty of energy/missile hardpoints.

Haven't played the Arctic Wolf, but it seems like an Assassin that hits harder, but doesn't take hits back as well.

EDIT: The Huntsman seems like the one to try first, since, you know... it's free.

Arctic Wolf is fantastic for 40 tons, Huntsman while slow for a medium (generic clan heavy speed, i.e. TBR) packs a good punch... if you like splat builds i would recommend the Pahket. Otherwise there's other solid builds you can do with the Huntsman with free pods.

So you have the Nova, Stormcrow, Ice Ferret & Viper (from your Viper thread), tried the HBK-IIC but didn't like it...

I would, first, give the HBK-IIC another go, specifically the HBK-IIC-A (8E version) with 2x ERPPC or 6-8 MPL.

The Huntsman ranks up with the HBK-IIC and Nova as one of the 3 best Clan Mediums (arguably best 3 Mediums inc. IS). 2x PPC, 2x UAC10, 2x UAC5 + lasers, Gauss + lasers, 6x SRMs (8x SRMs with Hero pods), SRMs + lasers. It's pretty versatile, but only as fast as your standard Clan Heavy at 81kph. JJs help keep it mobile.

The Arctic Wolf? No idea, not got one, not noticed any in game yet. Looks like a more fragile, more firepower heavy Assassin. SRMs + lasers, 6x Medium class lasers, maybe a 2x PPC poptart?

There's also the Shadow Cat, though the good builds are more limited than the Huntsman. 2x PPC, 6x MG + 2x Large class lasers, 2-3x ERLL, 3x SRM (4x SRM with Hero pods) + 2x lasers. It's got a top speed of 97.2kph with MASC for a short boost & JJs for a little flight.

Stormcrow is still my favorite. Its got an almost perfect blend of firepower, speed, and survivability.

Its like the Timberwolf of mediums

Hunchback IIC and Huntsman just arnt my style. Theyre too slow for mediums. IMO a proper medium needs to go at least 105kph. Or you arnt going fast enough compared to heavies to justify not playing a fast heavy instead.

The Viper is another favorite of mine. Again its fast enough to be considered a true medium. Although its loadouts are somewhat limited due to lack of tonnage.

Well I guess you have narrowed your parameters to the Arctic Wolf and specificly the Battlemech variants.

It not being an Omni-mech had a lot to do with it. I didn't like the hardpoints and felt that it was limited to being a one trick pony. What I like about the clan mechs is being able to change the hard points.

I havent tried the arctic wolf yet so I cant really give my opinion on it as far as performance goes.

the battlemech variants dont really look that good though. cant say im a fan of missiles. and I have no intention of buying blood kit, but blood kit looks okay.

the omnimech variants look far better. energy hardpoints are much more useful for clan mechs.

Haha! Funny enough.. I got the Viper thinking it was the Huntsman.

Perhaps because Hunchy2c doesnt have the agility u'd expect from a medium? Its lower than most heavies and actually worse than quite alot of assaults as well.

You have to have mobility tree to migitate that, even then its subpar. I'd recommend Stormcrow, or shadowcat, one is fast and great durability, other can play like a sniper raven but better mobility due to JJs and Masc.

I just picked up a huntsman and am having a lot of fun with it although I find it's CT get crushed easy if you aren't careful. 10% range increase for pulse lasers variant working for me. I also reccomend although a heavy mech, the linebacker. I just got one over the weekend and can't put it down, 3 HLL just deadly with that speed, so much fun.

Hunchback IIC is pretty meta. If you hated that, there's not much we can suggest for you.

Probably viper i guess or shadow cat?

Stormcrow, Hunchback-IIC, Nova, Huntsman.
Those are the tried and true top 4. All very good mechs.
Artic Wolf is brand new, but looks like a badass.
If you bought all five of these, You'll be set for any situation in group que or faction play.

If I had to guess, he probably hated the Hunchie IIC's agility that is lower than a number of heavies. Specifically, the laser boat variant is comparable to the Highlander IIC in the agility department...

But those high-mounts tho. Someone's probably not using it correctly.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Ice Ferret

and.. if you can believe they have one with ECM now, unbelievable the best mech in the game just got better.

I am going to guess, because it is boxy as all heck and too easy to kill. The Hunchie really only has the benefit of high shoulder mounts, you are either abusing that in a hunchie, or getting your butt handed to you, generally speaking.

It's fast, and kinda(?) tanky but its spartan hard points really don't help it win hearts..
Then, the arctic wolf arrived with all the missiles....
