Just how many different Chassis do people think there will be in Weight Class? Also would there be different base loadouts for starter mechs?
If there is, lets say four mechs per Weight Class then there will be sixteen different mechs at start to choice from. Is this enough or do there need to be more at game launch? I think that with Salvage four per Class would work out quite well. But then what happens after the time line moves forward and there are 'canon', simply better chassis out there readily available?

Probably about 2-3 mechs per weight class to start for free, there will probably be many for sale at a reasonable price however, perhaps some on the release day, others quite quickly thereafter.

I would hope that there isn't much in the way of power growth with new mechs.

It is likley that all Clan mechs will be for sale once they start becoming available. They offer obvious advantages and so giving them away for free would essentially throw the lower tech mechs away in terms of use. I would rather play a game where not everyone is in a damned MadCat for instance.

It is impossible to know anything however unless the developers make a statement.

I would hope for 3-4 per class having 12 to 16 mechs at the start shouldnt be an unreasonable amount of work for the designers. That said if thay can only get 8 really good looking mecs and add more later thats fine also.

I really have to believe they will have several mechs to choose from for each class (light, medium, heavy, and assault) that will have base load out for whatever mechs they choose to use. You have to remember, they have dozens of mechs to choose from, not counting 'unseen' mechs and that is from the 3025 books alone.

Well accourding to BattletechWiki there is over 20 mechs which name begins with an 'A' alone. So they might have around 100+ to shift through to decide what to put in the game.

Here is a list of the Mechs From BTW.

Well we still need some different types to fill the four roles. (Scout,Attacker,Defender,Commander). It may be they will use variants to expand the variety of role models (less modeling work needed?) available. There is the possibility that you could have dual purpose mechs ie the Commander is also fire support. It may be that we will have a distribution in the weight classes that reflects how common they are ie 2 assaults, 3 heavies, 5 mediums and 4 lights. There is also the ability to modify your mech(s). Again we don't yet know any details but that would also add variety (and surprise).

The thing of it is there a chance that not even the Dev. Team knows the numbers that will be in the game. It could be that you only get to pick from Light or Medium mechs to start then level up to unlock other weight classes. Light going up to Heavy and Medium up to Assault.

With the Dev. Team stating that Light mechs will have a role for all tiers of play could mean so many different things its silly. Will they be the 'sneaky' ambush mechs or are they just fast enough with enough weapons to get behind Heavy and Assault and do some damage? Will they be the only ones to have have NARC pods and the like? I think each weight class will have a 'role' so they most likely will have an even split between weight classes.

Actually, in numerous FAQ and Q&A's, the developers have stated that all weight classes will be available from the start - if you want to buy an assault to start with, you can.

Also, there are plenty of medium mechs with a scouting role, or heavies that have different roles than other heavies (fire support vs. brawling, for example), so I'm pretty sure they'll have a good mix of everything in there.

Hell if they put in all the 3025 classic designs, I will be a happy man and try to cramp them all to my hangar. But hangar space is likely a premium service though....
