For those who don't use VOIP, if there's a way to signal to my teammates to focus on my currently targeted mech, apart from the red triangle, is when I'm locked onto a target, hit an option in my command radial "ATTACK MY TARGET", that sort of thing, and the text chat box says "ATTACK B" or whatever the target has been labeled as. And even better if the target's box blinks when this happens.
Another one, similar to the TARGET SPOTTED radial command, is PUSH HERE, where I aim at the ground and hit this radial option, and the chat text says "PUSH TO D5" or something like that.

Wait, people don't know about company command?
Open the map and take the company command in the top left corner.
Now you can issue move, flank left/right, attack commands and the likes.
You can even ask for uavs/airstrikes/artillery strikes.
I'll take the seat every game and it helps tremendously in coordinating, some pugs may still not hit the target but at least they are shooting at it.^^
And there's the "move here" command you can use as a substitute for pushing.
I hope I understood what you meant here and actually answered your question.^^

I am aware of the Lance/Company command thing but it's cumbersome and in the heat of battle you can't pull out the map, plus you can't have everyone taking turns being lance or company commander just to indicate to attack the same target.

Well, that's why the (probably) most experienced/good guy takes it and uses it solely.
Besides you can just point on the ground and issue commands + it takes ~3-4 seconds to pop up the map and issue the command if you know what symbol you need.
It's good only one guy can then issue attack commands, since everyone would otherwise just be spamming theirs cuz they are getting shot and that target has to die now!^^
