I can not help but wonder what would have happened If PGI had put as much energy making maps, as they did in making modes, would we have a larger player base. This is an awesome game ( the only one I play) and even I get tired of standing in boxes, or circles, or following the drunk atlas. Some matches ( some times many in a row) I wonder why I brought weapons, as I run around standing in boxes the whole match. I know a lot of forum warriors love capquest, but the new players ( THE ONES WHO TRY TO CATCH UP BY BUYING LOTS OF STUFF) might stay longer, and in larger numbers if the variety was in maps not modes. The vote screen would become redundant. We would also have a variety of drop zones to keep the maps fresh and well used.

Your OP hits several hot button issues. From an implication that all you are looking for in a MWO experience is all skirmish all the time (but on more maps) to the implication that new players spend more than old players, I just don't think there is much chance of this thread being even remotely constructive. Hell even your statement that this is an "awesome game" is likely going to attract some lovely commentary. So nope. Not touching it.

The game would benefit hugely from more maps.

Look, there's a million things we all want for more depth and complexity. Go back 2 pages in Command Chair and look about the stuff PGI was saying they were going to do as an example, especially for FW.

However they never did it, have co.pletely given up on doing it. QP skirmish is the reality on how deep and complex PGI is going to be able to make the game, plus a few varieties of leaderboards. QP skirmish with a map shaped leaderboard and respawns (also called FW) took them years.

That's reality. Like it, hate it, doesn't matter.

Given that, a bunch more maps and more creative maps would add more variety to that gameplay.

I would rather another map or two than Escort and Invasion. Both of which were good concepts with mediocre/bad execution which is then just left in. Reminds me of that movie about Ed Wood, where they're making a B horror movie, the scene and acting are terrible and he just goes "Great! That's a wrap! Next scene!" While all the actors are saying wut? That's terrible, let's do it over. However the director says nah, costs too much, just leave it, nobody will notice.

Yeah. More maps. New players may not spend more than old players but old players are leaving and those who remainspend the same or less - they're certainly not spending more.

Abstaining from this one.

Been here too long to know better on both the efforts of PGI and where threads like these go.

The issue is there is no money in makeong new maps. So if they do its a 0 direct profit. Now if PGI overlords are reading this, they COULD release a set of maps and at the same time some mech's that would take advantage of said new terrain better than most, Then they would make atlest some coin off of the new maps... But that's just my 2 cents.

And if PGI use this idea I require my own personal Stone Rino... ;)

I suppose PGI can remove map selection for a while and then gauge players' reception. They did promise a new map in November.

They could just give us the back the old maps as well: Terra Therma Mount Doom, River City? with the Cave, Frozen City DropShip stand off, etc. Sure they have issues, but I think some variety would be better than none. And they already exist. So free.

The problem is that people buy mechs to play the game with. We are more disposed to buy mechs when having fun. If investments are not made to make the game more fun people will spend less on mechs.

This thread is less dangerous than mentioning LRMs or spawn camping.

How about no money maps? Maps cost money to make ...or do they? they could open up the map tools to a few or more people...have special test sessions. Then we could vote on the best two or three a year. Might bring in new people, and new people mean new money. Best part is it only cost PGI time in over site.

If you're spending the whole match capping in Conquest, you're playing it wrong.

Kills first. Always.

I think its about the same there honestly, replace the word modes with mechpacks and you might have a good point. But I think the answer would be something horrifying like, DLC cash money map packs?

I cannot help but wonder when people are gonna stop crying about not getting what they want even if it means screwing the rest of the community.

The sheer number of times I have seen a first post assume EVERYONE agrees with the OP.....

Bah!
Its October. Gimmie some Mussorgsky instead. Baba Yaga's Hut ftw! (Though all of Pictures At An Exhibition is awesome)...now there is some balance for ya.
