I don't know, despite the atlas being a power house, i prefer to have some movement too. the hunchback seems like a pretty good fit because it is well armored especially for a medium mech, and it has movement speed that might be slower in the medium department but compared to assault classes it would be able to run circles around 'em

as for a mech i want to see in the game, i would LOVE to have my nova cat back... That was my favorite mech in Mw4

So go get an Awesome. It's probably the closest you'll get in the game for some time. Even in this timeframe, the mech does not exist, and won't for about a decade from now even in the Clan that eventually developes it. Add to that that you are an Inner Sphere freebirth, and you can probably accept that the Novacat will remain out of playable mechs for the lifetime of the game (if we're still here and playing this game in 2022, we'll see).

Try a Stalker, it has weapons for every range.

I like to go long range but also would like a all around advantage.

I would suggest you to get a classic in the heavy class - the Catapult. It´s relatively slow, but has jump jets, that can get you to good sniping places and also allow you to deploy DFA, when your skills are improved. It´s also not so slow as most assault class Mechs - I don´t recommend an assault mech, because they are magnets for enemy scouts and long ranhe fire. On the other side it´s pretty good armor will keep you alive longer than lights or mediums.Take the CPLT-C1 variant, which will allow you to go long range with it´s twin LRM 15. The four medium lasers are quite good for med-to-small ranges, or you can replace them with some large lasers for more "all around" punch. Missiles are best for new long-range players because of their missile lock. Lasers are good for new players too, because they have unlimited ammo and you don´t have to hit so accurately - their beam last multiple seconds and you have time to inflict at least some damage. Only disadvantage is heat generation, but in combination with low-heat LRM of CPLT-C1 you will be able to manage it relatively easily. Catapult is a decent option for first mech - you will not regret it.

I thought I'd like gung-ho and went assault, but then I found out with the right engines and stuff, despite weight limitations, high speed light mechs were a blast to play, but then a pewpepwepwepw mobile, well armored medium mech was great against those pesky jenners, but then I enjoyed (when I was lazy) just LRM boating atlas's, and then I wanted to be a juggernaut
Honestly each mech type has its own perks and pace, and I think you want to have a good variety of mechs in your garage to make the most of MWO
