I bought a HBKIIC just for scouting mode, but it's like piloting a brick! How exactly did the clans take an IS mech, give it "better" equipment, and make a turret? Posted Image

Two possible reasons.

- The frame was not originally designed for mounting two massive guns, as opposed to just one, thus slowing it.
- People spammed the ever loving hell out of Metabuilds with ER PPCs and other Meta-compliant weapons.

It's the latter.

Example being, allowing the Black Lanner-typically considered a scout-instead of the Stormcrow, which is more of a generalist than a scout. Not a great idea, but doing it might reduce the amount of BS people complain about.

forcing people to use black lanners for lack of other options is a terrible idea

you should be able to play whatever you want, not forced to buy specific mechs

scouting mode needs more diversity not less

I think a positive change to scout mode would be to force teams to be 2 mediums and 2 lights

then you would see a little more diversity instead of just 4 bushwhackers/griffins/etc... or 4 huntsman/hunchbacks

You do realize that everyone would (Probably) just bring a Stormcrow if you brought them back, right?

Allowing one mech does not equal automatic diversity. While allowing it also does not, considering Streak/leg crows were all the rage in scouting a while ago, I doubt that would change now.

Not so much 'mechs, but the gametype is what needs work.

A smoke drop should be the ideal scouting run. You collect the intel and get out without the enemy ever seeing you. It should garner the highest possible rewards.

But no. Damage is the way to c-bills and XP, just like in every other mode, and so 'scouting' is really '4v4 brawl, oh and also you have to go touch these transmitters after the fight if you're on attacking side'.

Make gathering intel count WAY more than damage in Scouting Mode, award bonuses for collecting extra intel (to provide incentive to time the dropship down to the wire), and considering awarding further bonuses for not taking damage, or even for not being targeted.

This encourages the use of actual scouting 'mechs with speed, ECM, and Stealth Armor on attacking side, and since the attackers will all want to be using such 'mechs, it encourages the defenders to use similar 'mechs so that they can keep up.

The problem with this approach is until the release of the Arctic Wolf, only the Jenner IIC could match the speed of the IS light battlemechs, and with it's massive size and poor hit boxes with would be a poor match against the lighter IS mechs. However once the Arctic Wolf battlemechs are available for c-bills I could see this change to scouting working out really well.

Personally I think there needs to be different type of scouting modes like a raid - three targets, attackers need to destroy two and escape.

All my IS mechs easily stomp clan mechs of equal or lower tonnage (in some cases, HIGHER tonnage) unless the clan mech is running laser vomit and stays out of range (which usually means a ****** map like polar or alpine).

I really feel bad when my cataphract easily cripples marauder IICs, EBJs, linebackers and MCIIs, they dont stand a chance at all with those huge torsos and paper thin armor.

Clan mechs really need buffs (while nerfing laser vomit) because they basically only have one valid strategy to beat IS mechs of equal tonnage which is easily negated by using cover to get close.

Meanwhile i can run all kinds of varied builds on IS mechs due to non-locked equipment and easily stomp clan mechs due to better hitboxes, shield arms, PPFLD, 0.5s pulse lasers, etc....
