I understand for mercs, each contract has a 7 day minimum, and for Loyalists you have a 10 match probation. What exactly does this probation do? And once you're a Loyalist, I understand if you break ties you get a Loyalty Point penalty of 20%. However, if you break ties is there a 7 day lock out period as well?
Or is it that as long as I put in my 10 matches, I can freely switch between Factions as a Loyalist whenever I want?

For the probation matches - Basically you need to play 10 matches with no faction bonus, and no reputation gain. I'd suggest if you're trying to quickly burn through the 10 probie matches that you run a bunch of scouting. Once those 10 matches are done, your rep and bonuses will flow in.
Breaking loyalties work as follows - When you break a faction loyalty, you take a 20% loyalty hit right then and there. For the next 7 days, you're still locked to that faction, but no longer get any faction match bonuses. I guess you could call that a lockout, but you still can technically play games during it. (I wouldn't however recommend it unless you absolutely need to do it to get an event done)

The 10 probation matches thing was just another reason for me to not play FP.

Thanks, sounds like Loyalist is the same as Merc, as both have a 7 day lock-in.

You also get a forced title for that week you are locked, something like "Deserter" (can't remember off the top of my head).

The Loyalist needing 10-match was likely an attempt to cover a loophole by preventing players from creating alt Loyalist accounts simply to vote which planets to attack, and to prevent them from switching House/Clan to vote on planets.
