6x PPC Stalkers - in the days before ghost heat (and probably one of the main reasons for it), getting 6 PPCs in the face as you rounded a corner or peeked over a hill was sure to ruin your day.

But it was so fun to ghost up to one in a SDR-5D and park yourself 89 meters from their cockpit. And wave. Posted Image

But, yeah. Splatapult. Due to utilizing a bug that was at the time unconfirmed, it did beyond stupid amounts of damage. Unless you were packing splat, as well, you were basically deleted if you ran across one.

Dual AC/20 catapults or even Dual Gauss catapults. 30-40 points of FLPPD were considered a major issue at the time and Gauss Rifles didn't have that absurd charge up mechanic they do now.

Yeah the Gaussapult was thing. I remember having a drop with 8 of them ...that was such amazing cheese back then.

Raven 3L in early beta.

>"Lagshield" due to bad hit registration at the time, obnoxious durability
>Vastly more powerful ECM than we have today
>Vastly more powerful SSRM2 (wasliterally the best missile weapon in the game for a while)
>Combination of #2 and #3 let it be immune to enemy Streaks while still dishing out severe pain with its own Streaks

Well I had taken a large break before clans came out, and when I returned I sold everything I owned to buy a few KDKs, namely because I measured the mech weight to engine rate ratio and then compared that to its weapon space and overall compared that to my current best mech, the atlas, and the atlas was found severely wanting at that stage (still is IMO comparatively, though nowhere near as much).
So yeah I'd say that was the original OP mech for me.

Gotta agree with the 6 PPC Stalker. I believe that was the cause for Ghost Heat.

Splatcat, Boomjaeger, 6xPPC Stalker, and the Victor. LOL. The Victory was too agile. So they gave it negativity quirks xD

Then the Clans came out and they thought removing negative quirks was enough. NOPE. The Quirkening ensued. Then it was Thunderbolts, thunderbolts everywhere. Whether it was the medium pulse wub fest or the ERPPC Spam. When you think about the "Thunderbolt" is aptly named to rock PPCs.

I aso remember when the Catraphact 3D was considered OP.

I am pretty sure ghost was added to AC/20 quite a bit later than the PPCs or, if it wasn't, then it started off negligible.

If I remember correctly, the first truly OP mech was 9 small laser Swayback. It could go fast enough that most people just couldn't hit it at all, because this was pre-HSR. They had to nerf max engine size for all mechs to control the problem back in closed beta. This was well before the Gauss Cat or Splat Cat.

Someone might be able to narrow down the specifics better, but that is my memory for ya.

And when the clans came out, I owned the Stormcrow, and it was just silly strong. It had weird hitboxes, and could roll damage like a boss. It was the first clan mech I mastered, and its firepower, speed, and agility with strong hitboxes made it crazy, crazy good.

In my early days I'd probably say Spiders. I seem to recall how hard they were to kill with their small size, good hitboxes, dodgy hit detection/lag shield. Honorable mentions go to Victors, Cataphracts, Jagers, and Firestarters.

And then the Clans came...... Posted Image

The boomjag stands out to me because it was the first mech that I had to change my mechs' loadouts to be viable against it.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, Poptart HGN-733C aka the reason why jumpjets became hoverjets.
