Since 2012 this game has stomped its way into our hearts. As it has had ample time to get a well rounded base I wanted to try an experiment. If you could only ask for one thing to be optimized in this game what would it be. Please do not make a novel out of it...

PGI Please Optimize (Fill In the Blank)!!!

Optimize game performance. I think the best we could hope for is them using MW5 as a stepping stone into remaking MWO in Unreal 4. They've said that any attempt at upgrading would pretty much be the same amount of work as remaking the game in a different engine. Then again. Ark uses Unreal 4 and while it looks beautiful. It's a hog. And they've made a few passes on optimization since launch. Doubt PGI will do more than that. Still Ark is less hiccupy than MWO.

Please optimize...

Chassis to chassis balance (i.e. the legendary Paul goal of all mechs down to the variant level having a role and an equivelant value).

If they could get even remotely close to that goal nearly all other problems including tech imbalance would be a piece o cake. But that is a pipe dream I think and honestly I am not sure if “optimize” is what you are looking for here. Maybe instead request that they “Please make a legitimate effort at...” as a lot of the long term problems or issues that this game has are not one of optimization, but merely a lack of consistency and/or effort (see CW for example, everyone has an idea of what they want the mode to be, but until PGI actually decides what it wants it to be (pseudo competitive team environment, lorenerd draw, “immersive” experience, etc.) the mode will always remain the mess that it is and piss most everyone off pretty much equally); they are likely impossible to optimize but could be made a lot better with even a hint of effort.

From a technical point of view, the CPU utilization is bad. It knocks FPS from 80+ to <30 on my Ryzen 8core @ 4Ghz + 1080Ti, which is a beastly system. The bottleneck is not GPU, I can turn all graphics options on low and still have the problem. The bottleneck cannot be seen on testing grounds, FPS >100. It's some problem in multiplayer I think with the way the game handles human piloted mechs. Find that thread and multi-thread it dammit!!!!!!

Quickplay would gain a serious performance boost if team size was reduced back to 8v8. Posted Image

Poor GPU utilization even on on high end rigs with all settings turned up and you still get frame rates that plummet into the 30s.
I mean The Witcher 3 is one of the most graphically intense games out, and that will bring a high end rig to its knees. This game? No.

Its really annoying for folks that are sensitive to framerate drops.
