Wondering if anyone else is still here and misses those days?

That whole stages of grief exercise applies directly to MWO. It's time to let go and find acceptance.

Jenners were good (and smaller)
The old Forest Colony, Frozen City, Caustic, Terra Therma (I liked them more than the current ones)
Mode select and random map rotation (no silly voting)
No Clans (major powercreep and balance issues since then)
Jump jets were useful

But no, I'm just holding on until someone else actually makes a good mech game. And I'd prefer a new franchise, Battletech has not aged well.

I do NOT miss that. Thankfully it was short lived.

I miss when people used to sync drop with 2x4 teams to bypass the 4 man team limit in QP after they put in a group queue specifically for 8 man teams...wait i dont miss that either.
I miss when you had to buy 3 different variants to master one mech...wait....
Uh...
Okay i miss the ability to choose the game mode you wanted before the whole map voting fiasco that was used to put everyone in one bucket because we didnt have enough population.

You mean, the amount we lost. I remember how everyone packed away their Atlas' and upgraded builds because they couldn't afford to run them. So if you think ghost heat or quirks restricted builds, oh boy, let me tell you about repair and rearm. Of course it was less of a problem if you had premium time so basically, whales could run better mechs. Hello Pay2Win.

And those fights in cauldron...they were really unique... And now we have the same fights as on other maps...
New Caustic and frozen are nice for my taste.

The old skill tree was shockingly bad as was the 3 mech rule. Not only that, the fact that it was left in such a delinquent state for so long added insult to injury.
The fact that 'skill' somehow translates into improving weapon functionality, mech durability, radar, etc. is still so silly to me.
I ride road bikes for 100mi or so a week. That doesnt magically make my bike improve. I drive my car all the time, it doesnt get fine tuned into faster one.

I avoided the game for years because of the ratings and stuff I was hearing from friends.......
Now, as you all reflect, some bitter, some not, are we any better off; and, is a FPS arena (Solaris), as a strategic goal, the end-point of the journey you'all started? Is that what the original players, the "founders" really want or even envisioned at the start?
I wonder if PGI actually is listening to you'all at all? I know they count of your purchases in this very small niche game and market but, I wonder if they are listening to your hopes for the game?
I'm a newer player and just curious about what the "founders" think........

September to October month over month minimum 10 games
2016 - 35,798 to 37,041 - 1,243 player gain
2017 - 28,749 to 28,479 - 270 player loss
October year over year minimum 10 games
37,041 - 28,479 = 8,562 player loss
September to October month over month minimum 80 games
2016 - 16,504 to 20,074 - 3,570 player gain
2017 - 12,553 to 12,555 - 2 player gain
October year over year minimum 80 games
20,074 - 12,555 = 7,519 player loss
But, I guess the ones defending “the new MWO” are happy. Even though I see them now admitting they are playing less, and admitted to being the “cheapskates”.

Some things are better (Skill tree, Quirks, Mode Select) some are worse (12v12, Map Voting), but overall it's mostly the same.
As for vision, yeah, it was clear to me from the beginning that this was an arena shooter. Was built like one and would be almost impossible to change of that path. So I was kind of surprised when Solaris was announced. Then what is QP supposed to be because it's not actual combat.
And Faction Warfare.... some people really desperately wanted to believe that somehow PGI could pull of something that no one else have save for Eve Online. I never believed it and I was proven right. Didn't really want it either.
What I wished for was PvE which comes as MW5, so I can't complain.
Now if only they realised that FW was much better suited as QP with respawns without all the unit sealclubbing, we could also finally get some game modes that aren't skirmish.
