Man, I miss these hero mech showcase videos. Who did them, and is he/she still with PGI? These showcase videos where by far, THE COOLEST THING PGI HAS EVER DONE...bar none. For those who are new to MWO (about 2 years or less) and haven't seen them, do yourselves a favor and look them up. This one, the Grid Iron, and the Misery (1940's Army theme to go with its camo scheme) were two of my favorites. And, whoever did the music, did an awesome job.
PGI really missed the boat by not showing these videos as advertisements on TV. These hero mech videos would have made some of the best commercials ever showcasing MWO. And, would have drawn in tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of new players.

You're right that they screwed themselves in the pooch royally by not properly advertising and they've missed that boat even if they did decide to do it now.
They'd have to get rid of the name though cause "MECHWARRIOR online" appeals only to a small niche population of hardcore fans who've almost all left the game due to MWO not really being a MechWarrior game.
If they changed the name to something more appropriate that actually matches what MWO is, it'd do better.
Maybe something like "Robot Jox Online," "Robot Gladiator Tanks Online," or "Mecha-Gladiators Online" would sell this game better to the general populace.

The best part about those showcases was how they tried to advertise those stock builds in the most epic fashion. The Banshee one comes to the most. It had such a **** loadout, but I'll be damned if they didn't try to make it look like it was the best thing ever.

Answer: Because some players (are selfish) like having things that others can't get.
I have no problem with other players having the exact same (or different colours or whatever) Nvidia fairy as mine.

I'd love to have that $500 gold skin for free for my is mechs that clans had before pgi relented from just one single gold mech skin for $500 to more than one. Too bad I have more important things to spend the money on like food and bills.

There are lots of forbidden subjects we can't talk about like ik or dragons and bowling or jump jets or ammo switching lbxs. But we can talk about mech packs and about how little I care about them unless they are a light mech as I pilot lights as my favorite class.

Limited Edition is stupid and should be used sparingly. I would gladly buy the cheerleader if they made it available.
Exclusivity isn't really much of a selling point for me, I've never thought, 'HAHA I'LL HAVE THE ONLY ONE' about anything. I imagine some people are motivated to buy things that are exclusive but when retailers do that they miss out on money down the line. Imagine how many cheerleaders they would have sold if it was available.
Sometimes exclusivity makes sense, like the item you get when you kill a PGI account. Something earned, not bought.
