QUESTION: what book does Kai become the Solaris champion? Read his father earning it but don't see when he did. Thanks in advance.

I don't think any of the books covers him winning the title, just mentions that he won it. Assumption of Risk by Stackpole covers his time as champion before he leaves, but I don't think he actually earns the title in the book though.

There is Assumption of Risk but Kai is champion already within that one, in Lost Destiny he returns from the clan front but didn't go to solaris yet and I would have to fetch my copy of Mechwarriors guide to Solaris but if I remember correctly that one only talks about the championship and not about Kais arrival on solaris.

It seems your are specifically interested in Kai Allard Liao but if you would like to read a great BT novel on gladatorial mech combat try Star Lord. It is set on the less regulated and respected merc hiring/games world of Galatea.
