My experience so far? Forego firepower for the sake of mobility. Engine rating of 340 seems to be the sweetspot.

Today's test will be: Hangover (2xHPPC, 4xJJ, LE340, ECM + fillers)

Can do this build in RFL-3N with added +20% Projectile Velocity and +10% Energy Range quirks. With XL 260 (70kph) its a better, more survivable experience in a mech 15 tons lighter.

Then go play those mechs. Not everything is about the weight above doing better than the weight below etc etc. I forgot which Rifleman has jjs and ECM to play with. Or missiles. Or any combination of those for that matter. There have some more stupid ammunition.

Edit - Just built that RFL-3N and nope. Actually gave you the benefit of the doubt. First of all too hot. Second, that is +20% ballistic velo, so only applies to ballistics. The only way you can run that not even remotely close is with an XL and even then doesnt net you the heat efficiency you'd want. Did I mention jjs?

It was a fun and not serious build to show that some interesting things can be done with it.
But you do you, bud.

I love the look of the Thanatos... but that same concept art made me go, 'nope nope nope nope nope...'

I got burned with the Archer pack. That came out with weak armour quirks, too.

Things it can do simular to a Summoner
-Poptart ppc
-Missile bomber (SRM/MRM)
-Gauss cutting nips
-semi laser vomit (5e to the Summoner 6e)

What I mean by this, Summoner hasn't been know to take huge payloads of weapons, Infact it usually has weapons loadouts of a medium. Simular to the Thanatos

I haven't played with my Thanatos yet, I've been so busy fiddling with my loyalty 'mechs on the rare occasion that I get to play at all on a weekday. But I've done some smurfy theorycrafting at work and I was thinking about building my Thanatos around a pair of Heavy PPCs. My Highlander pulls off dual Heavy PPCs+MRMs quite well. I figure the Thanatos might as well.

i don't have the "hang over",
but i have the collection pack, i don't like them very much... to few hard points, it is very hard to get one over 50 in firepower,

i have build one with 2x30 mrm an 3 Er medium laser 1mg. 80 in firepower : 300 Light
and one with 1x20 mrm 4 Er Medium laser and a Rotor acx5... 94,5 in firepower 300 : Light

the 4S have two upper laser hard-point it is the only good i say right now about them. 48 fire power : 325 light
all of the variations i have, have 6 hardpoints

but i am by no means no master of this game, merely a rookie Posted Image

I'm over trying to find a build that works consistently. I'm over trying in vain to find a role for the damned things. I'm over being killed because of those ridiculously oversized side torsos, I'm over being the squishiest heavy ever. I want a refund. How do I go about getting one?

If you are struggling to find a fit for this mech ect.

Try building it like you would a Summoner, no seriously think like that and you might find yourself with some interesting builds and play style, plus you have ECM over that so def has something going for it.

It says that on Sarna but I think it doesnt mean much of anything for MWO.

Summoner gets primarily used as a poptart, not some bracket build based off the horrible stock weapons.

Real problem at hand is solo queue meta is much more attrition and less blitz. Often the brawler is the only brawler. MRMs are more alt-srms and not "medium range missiles".

MRM + Ballistic + Laser combos are also a bit heavy for Lite Fusion, so people run into issues with mechlab headaches over engine selection. I'd probably settle for a MRM + MLas combo with the expectation that its kinda a meh mech.

I always wanted a Summoner with ECM. Those perfectly placed high torso mounts and the ability to pack in dual HPPCs sounds great. I'll have to buy one when they are out for cbills and run this build.

The amount of Thanatoses I've popped with an xl check has been ridiculous. Just don't do it, people.

I dunno if the Summoner comparison is accurate because that mech can actually afford to take a few fits.

Well, most "good" builds on the Thanatos end up being like Summoner builds: low total firepower like 2x HPPC.

Except, you're slow as **** because you don't have tonnage for a big engine, your hitboxes are terrible, and you don't have the god-tier agility quirks. So, not at all like the Summoner, then.

"But muh ECM"

Not to mention that there already exists a far superior Heavy PPC poptart on the inner sphere side. Grasshopper GHR-5H. -10% energy heat generation, and 5 extra energy hardpoints for you to put backup medium lasers on.

XL version for those who want to reposition a lot.

LFE version for those who want survivability above all.

HPPCs are on cockpit level, doesn't have obnoxious hitboxes, armor quirks that allow the nimble grasshopper to twist damage to the arms easily.

Nearly same as my build but took one jump jet out for a TC. Think its worth the jump hight. Best build for the Thanny in my books, pulling 700 damage with in most games even on hot maps.

Thanatos is too slow and you can't run an XL on it. Really the comp players just shoot the side torsos out with whatever, doesn't matter if it's lasers or SRMs, the ST's are so big they absorb all incoming damage from spread weapons. Bang Bang. Why is it so damn big too? That's what's wrong with it. Thor is small hit-box's and fast at least.
