Experience with the Reaver will totally depend on whether you like UAC10s or not. With uac5s it sucks because low hardpoints and mid to long range guns dont work together.
You can theoretically make some laserboat with it, but there is c-bill roughneck which can do the same.

Well considering i managed to outbrawl quite a few mad2c's in it i would say its pretty good, itll suck if your team just sits behind cover all match though.

After having the Reaver since the Roughneck line came out for c-bills I can safely say it's a very good 65 ton mech.
2xUAC10 - 4xERSL or 2xERML - LFE250
4xLPL - LFE260
4xERML - 2xUAC5 - LFE260
4xERLL - 2xLMG - LFE280 (maybe SRM6 or MRM10 if you really want to)
2xLB10X - 4xERML - LFE260
Just a few builds I use.
You can play long range hill poke or brawl with it.

Reaver 280 LE, 2x UAC10 and mixed lasers. 2 LB-10X is also good, especially vs faster mechs. Get it, you will be happy. The only other Roughneck worth leveling is the energy boat. I made 30th in the Reaver challenge and it's worth your time.
I have had success with the Roughneck 2A as well. I have mine built as an endurance brawler.
280 LFE
11 DHS
Endo steel
Light ferro (max armor)
weapon payload is designed for sustained brawling.
LB10X w/ 2 tons ammo
MRM30 w/ 2 tons ammo
3 medium lasers
2 LMG w/ 1 ton ammo
(that's a 41% heat efficiency on Smurfy without any skill nodes)
I use it as a mid game "closer" hunting down enemy mechs with damage or obvious heat burdens and simply out last in a close range brawl.
Even against fresh enemy mechs of equal weight class it's performance is acceptable but, if you wait before committing for the enemy to have some heat built or damage sustained you will tear them to bits.

@Lykaon
I'll try that.
