It's supposed to work as a support mech with ridge peeking capabilities. Anyone have any suggestions for tweaking it? I was thinking of less AMS ammo for more AC5 ammo.

If you want to ridge peak in a Summoner, then you should run a 2x ER PPC build, although that means you'll have to drop the AMS too.

Yup, Thundernips is the standard peeking Summoner, though with the Summoner hero's LT omnipod you can now keep AMS if you own the hero.

Word of warning though, LRM mechs can 'fish' for your location if you're PPC peeking and use AMS (throw a volley of missiles over your head and watch your AMS shoot the missiles to know from where you're peeking). There are pros and cons to running AMS on a peeking Summoner; many will just use the rocks they're peeking over as their LRM protection.

I rather obviously considered the 2 ER PPC build, but I want to try something with dual AMS and ballistics. I saw someone running this build in quickplay, and I wanted to try it out,

On maps like Polar, AMS is really useful because there is basically no cover from indirect fire weapons.

2x UAC5 really isn't enough for a 70 tonner, and it can't fit 2x UAC10 with a reasonable amount of ammo along with AMS.

One more question, AMS or LAMS?

My general rules of thumb for AMS vs. LAMS on a clan mech:

AMS and a ton of ammo unless you absolutely need the extra half-ton and/or extra slot and your build is cold enough to run LAMS. If you are running two, dual AMS with two tons of ammo is ideal, one LAMS and one AMS with 1/2 ton or ton of ammo good if you have a cool build, and dual LAMS only if you have a very cool build that would otherwise never overheat.

Contrary to popular belief, there is cover. Dont walk along ridgelines. Im not a great pilot, but i regularly pilot Dire Whales/Annis on Polar and i have never really used AMS.

The bigger problem is getting left behind for an enemy light to core me out. Part of the risk, but the light usually gets hurt in doing so because most Solo light pilots arent that great.

As far as Summoner builds:

Thundernips

Splat(srm bralwing)

UAC20+2MPL for striking. Use the C variant(if i remember correctly) for the set-of-8 UAC jam quirks.
